do you have dialup or something?
I say this one
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
It is Java based so you have to download and install the
Java runtime (JRE) Then download and install the program
With a cable modem you can get anywhere from
20-130 KB/S depending on how many people are out there
serving up the thing you are trying to get
It is by far better than the average bittorrent clients like
bitcomet,bittornado,torrentstorm, and others.

"Is it Kb or kb?"[/bold}
what they heck are you talking about, it is always KB/S

I have tried almost all bittorrent clients, and by far I like the Azureus the best.

divide your connection speed by 8 and you'll get your max download speed. i.e. my connection is 1.5 MB's/sec DSL so 1.5/8= 187.5 kB's/sec for my max download speed. Do the same for your upstream speed to figure out your max upload speed.

Why do you divide by 8? I am just curious? I always though downloading torrents was always equal (or the premise at least) is close to what you give back. I have the Premier Internet from cox that offers 2 megs upload. I usually can never pass 2 megs download becuase that is what I am giving to the newtork of other leechers.

I'm talking about max download speed. A torrent obviously depends on seeders, max upload speeds, packet's sent thru routers, and your max d/l speed. Something like there's 8 kilobits in a kilobyte. SO take your max download speed in kilobytes and divide by 8 and you get the max number of kilobytes you can download.

there are so many factors when it comes to downloading
that i wouldn't really worry too much about it.
1. your servers speed
2. the server speed of the people you are getting it from
3. the servers it is going through
4. how many seeds/leaches there are for that file
5. The program you are using
6. anything else running working memory on your system
7. and i am sure many more i just can't think of.

Damn I guess me hitting 250kbs almost every single time is lucky for me. I mean 250kbs is my average but when I get a torrent with about 30 seeds it hits over 600kbs. Why is my downloading so high?

Yeah since Azureus is Java based it is a resource hog. It's taking up 134MB's right now lol. But I really like it and it has provided terrific results. My mighty (lol) 1.5 MB's DSL connection gets speeds of 20kB's/sec regularly. Bit Tornado and Bit Lord are decent too.

Azureus is the best!

Not because it's faster because that has nuthing to do with it but because it has the most options and the best GUI imo.

It depends on how many seeds there are and howmany leechers. Also depends where you get it from! but my average is around 50kbs tell I'm past 50% it goes around 100kbs and higher. I'm talking about over 100 seeders though.

Yeah more than anything it depends on the seeder's upload speeds. Your max download speed has less to do it with it than you might think.

My question is how does torrent's slow down if you lower your upload speed? I mean I have to give a lot of bandwith to download one file. I will give an example, I give 250k of my upload for like 60-100 k when i download a file. I don't feel its very fair and my speed is lousy. I wish there was more of a 1/1 ratio.

Basically you get back as much as you give, otherwise you're a leecher lol. Try setting your upload to about %80 of your maximum capacity. Divide your maximum upload speed in kilobytes/8 and you'll have get your max upstream speed. I.E. I have a 256kB's/sec max upstream speed. So 256kB's/8kb's =32kB's/sec upload. So I would set my max upload at around 26kB's/sec.

my max upload is 260 kbs. I have a 15 meg download 2 meg upload. One question i would like some opinions on is how many files from a torrent prgoram would you download at once? I have noticed it seems for efficent to go one at a time to maxamize bandwith. Would anyone agree or disagree?

Shouldn't really matter with hi speed. Now say you have a P2P program like Limewire and Bt open at the same time, that could affect your bandwidth.
