Great for you, but not everyone wants to spend their money on music encoded at 128kbps in WMA format.

What's the problem with it being encoded? You want it, you buy it and burn it. It's a whole .99. I'm sure that's not going to break you. Even if you don't buy it, you can still listen to it as much as you want. There's so much crap music out there now that I don't buy much. Paying .99 for a song beats paying $14.99 for a CD that only has one or two decent songs on it!

well i prefer to download the 'crap music' (at good bitrates), off bittorrent, the albums i buy are the ones that are very good(i have to really want them)

i mean no disrespect here, but i signed up for a legal download service(itunes) the other day out of curiosity. i found out just why so many people use p2p. i have had no less than 7 emails in 4 days with loads of bullshyte promo offers. the quality sounds worse than 112kbps(the minimum i can bear), they had none of the songs i was looking(they only seem to have popular stuff, the commercial artists) and it cost me money!! sure the artwork is cool and all that. but i downloaded an album overnight last night. the sound quality is excellent (minimum bitrate = 199kbps), i googled the front and back covers, and hey, presto! and i can burn it 50 million times if i wish.

i know in your case it's napster , but is's the same old story.

@ big companies - show me a service where i can download vbr music that is not protected in any way, make an effort to find EVERY song, and give it to me at a reasonable MONTHLY price (maybe £25) then i'll be interested.

thats more than my 2 bobs worth...

WMA is a dreadful format music wise and when it is DRM'd its even worse. MP3 is so much better. But if your happy with it then stick with it.

Like Lethal said if a service was introduced where you download VBR quality MP3 files which arent DRM'd, a whole catalogue of artists and for a reasonable monthly fee I would probably sign up and piracy would most likely go down. But until the music industry thinks of this idea then everyone is stuck in the same position.

I totally respect your opinion as you do mine, I just don't see the problem. On my computer, the sound is crystal clear (none of that metallicy sound you get sometimes) and it's super fast and easy to navigate and reasonably priced (in my opinion). I've only had 1 song that I wanted and couldn't find. I've made several CDs using the music from there and they turned out great. I've never used itunes before so can't comment on that but I only get 1 email per week on Tuesday from Napster telling me about new releases. That's it. Sorry you had such a horrible experience with that with itunes. I would be very annoyed by that too!
Well, I love the Napster service and will keep it. Hope one day soon you will find a program that you like.

Lol Don't be sorry man! i have downloaded quadruple figures of songs off p2p for free, and seeing as apple charge 80p a song... it's their loss. i'm not really bothered. damn, they give you an email with an official 'bill' every week. i'd rather just be able to check my spend if and when. when i buy my music i get of my arse and buy it from the shops. (lol no offense!)

By the way, 128kbps sounds great if you have never heard VBR (variable bitrate) or music ripped@ 320kbps, it is CRYSTAL clear excellent sound. 128kbps .wma will be ditortion free, but it sounds like a cassette. i tell you what, nlm, put a cd in your drive and rip a song (a musical song with lots of instruments). first do it @ 128kbps .wma, and then at mp3 320kbps. you will notice a massive difference!!

g'luck!

no,no,no...it's not a bill they send every week. It's a "hey-here's-what's-new-at-Napster" email. If they sent me a bill every week, I'd be ticked too! LOL
