i agree, since most PS2 games are DVD Based you need to
get a DVD burner.
Like the Sony DRU 720A which is fantastik for the price
it is like $100 and can do any media
DVD's & Cd's. (+R,-R,Dual Layer, CD-R)
then just put it where you CD burner is, unless you have an extra slot for it.

lol a lotta sony CD-RW writers are made by Liteon. I have a Sony CRX216E. It was originally made by Liteon, but Sony slapped their name on it after production. So Steimy you reccomend the Sony DRU 720A. I checked at Staple's and they have the DRU800A on sale for $100 or so. I'm sure I can find it cheaper online, but you've had good luck with your Sony DRU 720A? I am in the market for a burner as I'm getting my v.4 PS2 chipped. I need to backup my PS2 games.

not only have i had good lucjk, but great luck
i do not have nearly the amount of problems as others
do with games not working. It will burn any media, and
do a great job. I do not know much about the Benq mentioned
above, but i do know that there is no way a $37 burners is going
to be top of the line.
"Conclusion:

BenQ's 1625 DVD burner with LightScribe technology is a good burner, I would not say the best though. I wanted to see better media compatibility, but it did burn all the media I through in there, just not at the speeds I always wanted. The added software makes it easy to customize burning to your own needs.

LightScribe is going to be a great technology, and if looking for a burner, get one that supports LightScribe. While it might not be as quick as the Sharpy, it allows home users to make professional looking DVDs and CDs with ease.

Pros:

Supports Lightscribe
16X performance
Add on tools easy to use (bookmark)
Cons:

Issues with some media speed wise
Lack of head phone port on the front
Wrong screws included
Ratings:

Overall: Good
Performance: Good
Installation: Good
Price: Good
Packaging: Excellent
Compatibility: Good "

yes, Sony burners are made by Liteon
but they are also highly reliable and
have better media compatibility than the BenQ
the only thing the Benq has that the Sony does not
is the lightscribe. Which is a nice feature if you feel
like spending extra $$$ on special DVD's so that you can use it.
I looked at BenQ's on the net and most of them were more towards
$80, http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/catOid/-12975/N/20012961+20012973...
so where are you getting them for $35?

the BenQ was rated by users at a 4.3 out of 5
the Sony DRU-800A was rated at a 4.8 out of 5
Circuit City has the Sony DRU-800A
right now with rebates that take it down to $69.99
You pay 99.99 ($10 savings) and get $30 mail in rebate

From what i hear the BenQ is a great burner as long as you
update the firmware that it came with to the third party flash
that is out there on the net. And so you know BenQ also outsources
their burners and not all of them are made by BenQ

"purchased this drive for $45 after the rebates. Initial inspection of the cellophane seal on box can tell you if it's made by BenQ. Flash it with the BenQ firmware, and.. Wha lah.. A high-end burner for $45. Make sure the cellophane seal has I/O magic printed on it, or it's hard telling who made it. "

but the choice is really yours to make, not mine.
I already have what i wanted. I reccomended one to a friend
and he bought the DRU-720A and has fell in love with it.
