How Bad WIll the quality be?

"I Robot" is 6.58 GB's size file just the movie not including any of the other files on the disc.
So I see I can still burn it since when I move it to the "Re-Authored DVD" section, it's duration is the same although the size have fallen to 4.46 GB's now.
Now my question is how bad will the quality become on the movie?
OK I went ahead and did some stuff and got it to 80% at best. How's that going to look.

You really won't notice the difference. Burn it to a DVD+RW first to check the quality. If it isn't to your liking erase it and try again. If it is , just burn it to a DVD-R.

I backed up everything. movie and extras ... turned out fine.
I do remove DTS audio though ... rarly do people take advantage of DTS and it frees up alot of space.

When the compression tab in DVD Shrink tells you 80%,then you are compressing it 20%.
In the backup options under the quality settings tab,you'll have 2 boxes: Perform deep analysis and compress video with high adaptive error compensation. Max smoothness is what I use on my highly compressed movies. These will improve the quality of your backups,but will slow you down more.
Those enhancements will pay off for when you get those enormous 3 hr+ movies like lord of the rings that will have some major compression.
Rw's are the way to go. Keep a note of compression and what enhancements/if any are used and see how the quality looks while you view them on the old telly.

As long as I keep the compression above 55-60 percent on main movie I very rarely notice a difference viewed on an upconverting 51 inch rear projection screen. If I backup the entire disc I remove DTS audio, unwanted audio and subtitle tracks, remove audio from menus and change compression to still pictures, crank compression all the way down on special features and always get a good result even on the "bigger" dvd's. I also use the deep analysis and adaptive compensation.

-As stated above I also keep the compression above 60% and I am quite happy with the results. I remove the DTS audio and always use the deep analysis and the compress video with high adaptive error compensation settings in the quality setting tabs. It may take twice as long but it is well worth it.

Congrats! :)
The kind of TV you watch it on also GREATLY affects the ability to see the compression used on the video. (ie: BIG SCREEN TV, Plasma TV, High Definition, LCD, etc.)

Any time! Happy burning! Don't forget to use high quality media and burn at a slow speed like 4X. You'll never have a problem with quality!

@Cougarkid, Shrink can also allow you to snip off the credits using the clip feature after you re-author. This gives a little bit more space for the movie and less is used for compression. I use this in Recode 2, Intervideo Copy 3 and CloneDvd2...does a great job and can just give a little more back to the movie and for quality. Another issue is source quality...I ROBOT is great source quality and so the back-ups should look great...other movies that are older and the source quality isn't that great then having that extra space for the movie and less compression can make all the difference. Just my opinion and what I have learned from backing up movies. My dvd collection is around 900 and that means I have my work cut out for me in order to make backups and some of the earlier backups were done on cheap media (sorry guys!) and so I'm correcting those and not only do they play great but they look great.

@cougarkid, I primarily use Taiyo Yuden 01's (4x) and 02's (8x) both -R, I also use Vebatims, Sony's, FuJi's and Maxell (all made in Japan). I order TY's from Supermediastore, yet my Sony's and FuJi's code out as Taiyo Yuden's. I found those at Best Buy and Staples when on sale. The Maxell's I purchase at Office Depot when on sale and look for made in Japan...there are those made in Taiwan which I stay away from. Hope this helps. Have a good night.
