i have a 661 mb movie, an avi with codec div3 divx3 low motion codec , picture/sec 23.974, frms/sec,23.974 , frame 640 x272,length 1:25:45 ,frms 123,380, kbps 914, qf 0.219, interleave 249 ms 6.0 v. frames, preload= 456

ive tried to convert it to 4:3 in videostudio and divxtodvd to a 4:3 movie everything works but i still get a widescreen look, the dark spaces on top and bottom of the TV screen. I want the the video to fill the whole TV screen. why isnt it filling the whole TV with a full picture ?
the specs for the mpeg2 are 720 x480, fps 29.97 bitrate 6176 kbps VBR, 4:3.

THE SPEC FOR THE VOB DONE WITH DIVXTIDVD are 29.92, 720 x 480, 4:3 far: 1.500 3:2, par: 0.889, dar: 1.333 (4.3)

how do i get the conversion to fill the tv screen with getting the two dark spots above and below the picture on the tv

Was the original file in widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio? of so you may have problems cropping it to 4:3 however Roxio DVD Builder doesn't support 16:9 in versions 6-7.5 and it will convert it to 4:3 no matter what.

The original file has an AR of 2.35:1 (ie widescreen) and the output has the same resolution for the movie, but is in letterbox format instead of widescreen and technically letterbox is fullscreen (ie not anamorphic). If you want to make an actual fullscreen DVD (that fills up the entire frame with picture) from it you'll have to use an encoding program that either resizes vertically to make the image fill the screen or crops the sides and then resizes vertically. I have no idea what options the programs you're using support so I can't help you there.

diablo, roxio's dvd builder will do it automatically, and cucusofts AVI to dvd will give you the option to change aspect ratio and stretch to fill screen but don't be surprised if some of your screen image is lost...I have never done this so I am not sure being a movie purest I like widescreen formats and have an HDTV with 16:9 30" screen and back in the laseridisc days I had a 32" inch 4:3 the black lines never bothered me as I knew I was getting the entire picture and not some pan&scan production but to each his own other than those programs I don't know what others you can use perhaps the mod who left other information can help with that by suggesting another program, also DivX to dvd freeware might have the option but not sure on that as I use the paid version and again have never tried it. Don't know if that helps
