I'm new to this so please bear with me. I've enjoyed this site for sometime as a nonmember...
I love DVD Shrink, but lately the end product hasn't been up to snuff. The latest example is Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, the first 2 hours was fine then the last 15 minutes the movie started stopping and starting and then the player just failed to read. Is this a media problem? I use cheaper bulk media. Another related question I have is if there is some great software that could shrink the dvds so I can use DVD Decrypter to write?
hi, the most common reason for this is too high a burn speed and/or cheapy crappy media. it can sometimes be due to too high a compression rate, however you've stated that the first 2 hours was fine.
Try reducing your target size in Shrink to 4300, you may be burning too near the edge, also with the cheaper media keep your burn speed down to 4x. If you are looking for something else you can always use Nero Recode that will compress/encode and then Nero to burn, if you have Nero. You can try the 21 day trial of CloneDVD from http://www.slysoft.com that will compress and encode an iso image and save to your hard drive and burn with Decrypter, although CloneDVD also burns. Have you used Shrink with deep analysis, and the quality enhancements which does improve overall quality, because as free programs go this is still one of the best, even if outdated. If you are looking at other free programs and do not mind investing time, and getting the best quality backup then try the free ver. of DVD Rebuilder, it is one of the best programs going. Check out the Rebuilder forum and you will find a lot more info. Here is the site.
