@ bobright hi :)
your question really suprises me. (said in the best possible way)i've seen that old dancing bear around for quite a while now.
all i use is shrink and DVD Decrypter with DVD43 in the background when needed
nero is installed but have not used it yet

I use DVDFab Experss..... it does a great job and you can set the burning speeds... unlike Intervideo DVDCopy3.....but Copy3 has great transcoding and quality is good... just that it burns at max speed! But, if DVDFab Experss needs to compress more than 85%quaility..... then I use DVDDecrypter + DVDRebuilder! If need be I might use DVDRemake inbetween for those TV episode DVDs! There is always a program available to do the job at hand!

Run the nero cleantool. You can get it here:

http://ww2.nero.com/us/Nero_6_Clean_Tool.html

The download your nero again and see if it is ok now.

Nero can be flaky at times, this cleantools usually works for me the few times nero acted up on me.
Edit: It is a pain in the a** to post the nero cleantool link, LOL

..and if you choose Nero (you might not) it's usually just a few tweaks needed to get it working properly and consistently....
