no..no problems at all with that movie..make sure in the re-author mode you didn't uncheck the audio 5.1 box.

Hi,
No sound in the DVD Shrink preview is normal. Just make sure in the re-author mode as movie27 stated you check the appropriate audio box and uncheck any languages/ subtitles you don't want.

hmmm. i guess ill try it again. i did record it with the audio checked. of course its a pretty big movie so i set it in re-author for the main movie only to be recorded. i used a DVD-R like ive been using and no sound. maybe its some type of new copyright protection. i dont know what else to think.

Are you getting sound for anything else on your pc? Sometimes your audio gets muted on the desktop. Check your audio under start>programs>accessories>entertainment>Volume control. I know it sounds basic and simple, but sometimes that is all it is. Once mine had WAV files muted, and that one drove me crazy until i finally checked my volume control. Also as matt72 said, you don't get sound on the preview mode in shrink, that is not a problem, it is normal. The sound should be there when clip is copied over. The sound is there as you can hear it in other equipment. If the only time you don't hear sound is when you preview in shrink, there is no sound preview option. Sounds like it is making a perfect copy, and you can't hear sound only when using shrink preview (which is normal). no one gets sound when doing shrink preview, so if i understand this problem correctly, you do not have a problem. When you say you get no sound, what are program are you using when you expect sound? Shrink preview doesn't play the sound files, only the video. The copy will have sound and video when played on your pc/stand-alone. Sorry if this sounds confusing. I just wanted to make sure you understood what matt72 said.

I have had this same problem, but I went away when I decreased the burn speed to 4x. What speed are you burning at?

You know what? I don't know what i am talking about on the audio portion of shrink. I checked and sure enough, it does have audio on preview. The audio disappears on encode and ananlyze and i guess that is why i said it didn't have audio. Feel free to step in and correct me if i say something incorrectly. Lack of sleep does funny things to your brain.. Now that we got that out of the way. Have you tried changing any of the settings for audio in dshrink? Under edit>>preferences>>preview there are settings for audio output type, and direct x video. I have a copy of sin city, and i will try copying it again to see if there is any audio issues going on in preview mode. I ripped it fine, and the copy plays audio on everything, so i don't think it is anything in the way of an encryption scheme.

good deal. i was about to say, im not crazy. i knew there was sound in the preview window. ive tried everything i could think. DVD-R, DVD+R, changing settings to fix the audio issue. nothing seems to work for me. i know that disc that i got from my friend is very new. he purchased it less than two weeks ago. maybe its possible they are putting other copyright protection on new disk. i think i am just going to try another ripping and shrinking program for this and see what happens. the only problem now i cant find a free one.

You are not crazy, i am~:) I am sorry if i made it look like you were wrong. Have you tried DVD Decrypter, or DVD Fab Decrypter? Both are free rippers and available here under the software tab above. They extract the movie to the HD and you use the open file tab instead of the open disc tab in shrink. Both are good programs, the only thing that gives DVD fab an edge is, it is regularly updated to handle new encryptions. I use AnyDVD in conjunction with dvdshrink and sometimes Nero. AnyDVD works in the background to remove encryption on any disc you put in your drives so that the disc appears as un-encrypted to all programs. It is a great program, not free, but has a free 21 day trial period. If you have the HD space, i would DL as many of the free programs here as you can. Then when you encounter a problem using 1 program, you can whip out your software toolbox and attack the problem with another program, or two. The only thing out there stopping a back up now is a scratched disc, or one that was badly pressed giving crc errors. No current movie encryption is keeping anyone from making a backup. The latest one to give brief headaches was Lords of Dogtown, and that one was defeated before the movie was even available for sale here in the states. Many excellent guides are here for most of the programs. They walk you thru step by step how to use them. Check the guides tab above. I am going to try re-ripping sin city tonight and i will let you know if i find anything funny in the sound department.

thanks alot. i finally got it too work. u know what is screwed up. i think it would have worked the whole time. sound was not coming out of my comp dvd player because its intervideo 5. it only supports 2.1 channel sound. the disc only offers 5.1! i had to go into my audio setting on my standalone dvd player and change the audio from DTS 5.1 to dd 5.1. thats all it was. thats probably all it was the whole time. just never thought of it. oh well, i got it now. thank you for all the help. and thanks to everyone else with any advice that was given.

Sorry just chimed back in on this thread and yes during the analyzing/encoding phase there is no sound. I should have re-read before I moved on. Glad to see you got it working as I just bought the dvd out of curiosity to see for myself. If you are previewing the main movie then yes you have sound.
