Hi all. New here. I spent the last hour reading posts regarding my question, but am still not sure. I must be tired
I have a SCPH-700012 model Slim PS2. I would like to purchase Swap Magic 3. Is this all I need to backup my games? I do not need a slide card or a flip top?

I'm pretty sure with a slim line you must use a flip top. No place for a slide card to work.........

You have two retail solutions: 1) A fliptop/replacement case; 2) some sort of plastic "plugs" (also called switches).

Or you can be cheap like me and simply "mod" the slimline yourself for free with tape and tissue =p I actually bought a fliptop lid but never installed it, partially because I failed in installing it and partially because it was so ugly -.- Now it just sits on my table gathering dust.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure about the fliptop. I saw this website that quoted me 110 dollars to "mod" my system with a modchip. My only concern, after more reading, was that the laser will burn out. I think I still have some "thinking" to do

One last quick question... How does the slim ps2 prevent the game from being loaded in that I need a flip top lid? In other words, what does the flip top lid do that allows the backed up game to be played? I understand the swap magic, but not the lid?

The new Flip top or Switches that you would need for your PS2 make the PS2 think that the lid is always closed. Therefore letting the disc spin.. If you didn't have a new Lid or Switches installed the PS2 would know when you open the top to switch out the discs and wouldn't load the backups properly

here is a link to easily mod your PS2 so all you'll need is the swapmagic discs
