Hey guys/girls, this is my first post and im actually doing some info digging for my older brother because he isnt very computer literate, anyway, he has a 5 y.o son, and most of you probably know, discs and kids do not mix. He has lost several games, to scratches put there by his son.

He would like to know (as would I) where in Australia could I get a reliable Playstation 2 mode chip. One that will work every time and for a long time. It will be me who puts it in, im not afraid of a little bit of soldering. What do you suggest.

AMD Athlon 64 S754 3200+ @ 2.6ghz
Gigabyte K8VT800 Pro :(
512mb RAM
Gigabyte 9600XT :( (About to become an X180XT)

I'd suggest you check google and order a chip online.
The best chips out there are the Matrix Infinity and the DMS4 Pro.
On a related note, make sure you read up on how to make backups before actually trying to make them, it will save you some money, time, and probably a lot of heartache...

Thanks for that then. Matrix Infinity or DMS4 it is. Is there a thread on here about how to install them, or are they plug and play?

I read a thread somewhere on here, about using DVD Decrypter's ISO Read/Write function. It wont be used for online play (at this stage) so that doesnt phase me.

***EDIT: I googled ps2 mod chips, and got www.modchip.com and they have a DMS4 E.Z.I mod chip, which says it is compatible with all V5-V11 PS2's. How do I find out what version my brother's PS2 is? Does this chip with work with silver PS2's and the mini PS2's?***

Both chips *should* come with soldering instructions, and if they dont, their respective maker's websites should have detailed diagrams and schematics on how to solder them on. *i know for a fact the dsm site has soldering instructions*

I read the guide on DSM's website. Now im curious, where can I get a 'homebrew OS' that will play back-up copies of games?

I think they mean stuff like memory card exploits, and emulators *mostly known as "homebrew" applications*.
As far as i know, ToxicBios and ToxicOS are the only OS and bios that you can use, again, check their forums for more info, i'm not an expert on this stuff.

Go here : http://web02063.prolocation.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=12&sid=9de...
If you decide to get a DMS chip, I'd stick with toxicbios if i where you :)
