I have been backing up movies for maybe 2 weeks now. I recently purchased a Rosewill RD-162 DVDR/RW. It worked great at first but now it won't recognize the rewritable DVDs that i put in. The green light keeps flashing but my computer is saying that there are no blank disks in the drive. The DVD-Rom itself will play CDs and DVDs but won't recognize any DVD-Rs. What can I do. Feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well before when it was working, I was using FujiFilm DVD-R 8x. It worked perfectly fine for about 2 weeks or so then all of a sudden my DVD-Rom drive won't recognize any DVD-R's. It tells me that there are no disks in the disk drive. I have troubleshooted, tried about 20 different disks, and everything else I could have done. Could it be my DVD-Rom drive is messed up? It plays CD's and most DVDs, it just stopped recognizing my blank DVD disks.

thanks for the info, this is exactly what happened to me with a micro-advantage drive and it would recognize cds but no dvds when i called they told me to upgrade the firmware. I did that and it still didn't work so i got a refund. I am not sure technically what happened to the drive but our stories are similiar hopefully someone else will log into this post that knows more meanwhile what brand is your drive perhaps we can research known issues

Use this free proggy http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ and give me the make and model of both your dvdrw drive and dvd-rom drive and the current firmware for each. The firmware will be in brackets following the make and model of the drive. I will then look for updated f/w for both. You can also use that proggy to ID your media to see who actually made it.

Hey Mort, I tried the proggy and it says I have no media present. Anyways my DVDrw drive is a Rosewill RD-162 and my DVDrom is a Dynex Lecteur DX-DVDR100. I can't find the firmware for either of them anywhere on the box.

This is all I can find for your dynex dvd-rom. http://www.dynexproducts.com/t-drivers.aspx
Your rosewill dvdrw is a rebadged aopen but that's all I can fid out about it. Those are both odd balls (no offense intended)
You have to have a disc loaded in one of your drives then select that drive to ID your media.

All I can recommend is emailing or calling rosewill about a firmware update for your drive. Sorry I can't be of more help.
