Whats the best software for putting full size movies or video z-ts files on a single cd-r. Or is it just a waste of time cause the quality suffers.

with the cheap burners/blank dvd media out there these days, and the fac that you do lose a lot of quality, i'd say it's a definite waste of time.

but putting a full size movie in a single cd-r that's impossible. u ned at less 2 cd disks for crappy mpeg1 graphic, 3 disks for a much better mpeg2 graphic.

stop hoping, start loving.

Well, you can put a DVD onto a CD in DVD format, but you will definately need a DVD player that can play those (a PC should have no problem). Since you have so many cd-r's you can give it a try. I believe all you have to do is make a DVD small enough to fit. I think I saw the option in Nero Vision Express, but that would have been 6.6.0.1 and not the current version, which is what I am running now.

As for Quality, generally compressing 1 hour of movie to about 700MB will not be to bad. I would use stereo AC3 at 192 kbs, but you can maybe go a bit lower. I have gone as low as 750 or so MB on a 63 minute movie, and the quality is the same as the source (the source was not too good, but compression barely lowered quality).

When I do Episode DVDs, I go for about 5 hours per disc. That is 1 hour per 850 or so MB and the Quality is great. When you do VCD, you get problems when you compress too much. Maybe mpeg-2 is more efficient. So if your DVD player can play a DVD on CD then it is possible to do it that way, but I have no idea what will happen in time. It may just stop working after a while. I would definately not back up important or favorite movies like this.

Evilholy,

that is not true at all. You can use AutoGK to fit a full two hour movie on one cd-r with excellent quality.

use this guide
