Im really not getting an answer to this question whereever I ask it, what should I use for my PS2 V9? DVD + or -? The stores around me give me the options to buy:
Memorex +/-
Maxell +/-
TDK +/-
Emtec +/-
Mmore +/-
DVD+R is cheaper around here, but are they better? I just need quality DVDs to backup my games so they'll last. I need some positive nd negative feedback people to make me decide =) but hurry, my SwapMagic 3.6 is gonna arrive in the next few days =D

TDK DVD-R,*i'd personally recommend you get Verbatim DVD-R*
since -R is generally goes easier on the ps2 laser.
And indeed, stay clear of memorex, they'll kill your laser.
DVD+R are better for movies.

Out of the ones you mentioned I'd go with the TDK & MAXELL
Make sure you look for the ones that say "Made in Japan"
If your burner supports Bitsetting AKA Booktype setting then you can use DVD+R just set the booktype to DVD-ROM

Basicly what booktyping is (if burner supports it) when the Burner writes the disc it puts a header on there (the info that tells the DVD Drive reading the disc) that makes the DVD Player or PS2 think that you're playing a normal DVD-ROM or store bought Disc...
No this does not mean you can Booktype a PS2 game and you need no mod or anything.. You still need a mod of some sort in your PS2
(Lets get that out of the way before all the newbies have a field day thinking they just need to booktype thier discs :) )
It only works on DVD+R media... DVD-R doesn't need to be booktyped for it is the standard when it comes to burning media almost every player known to man should play a DVD-R
So in a nut shell it's used to make your player think that your DVD+R is a DVD-ROM

I'm not sure if it makes your PS2 lense read any better or not.. I asked that once before didn't get a real straight forward answer..
and if your Burner supports booktype setting then all you need to do is change it in the program you're buring with..

oh welli think it probably would because it would make the lens read way better instead of making the mod struggle with the lens

@PsychoRvS
Thanks a lot man, I and other people just spent 3 days or so trying to help you out.. and you say you're not getting any answers.
What was all this then? http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/238409
I don't think it could have been any clearer... DVD-R is most people's choice.... and you never mentioned what brands you had a choice of, but I would go with the tdk or maxell of the list you gave on this thread.

What dvd burner do you have?
under Nero CD-DVD Speed Extras menu then Bit Setting you should be able to set it to DVD-ROM if your burner supports it
or there maybe a firmware upgrade for your burner in order to set the booktype AKA bit setting

Burning PS2 iso's with DVD Decrypter, does that have the function, or does Nero work too?

I found the function with DVD Decrypter, but what does booktype do.. does it let me convert DVD+R to DVD-R? cuz everyone says DVD+R is bad for PS2 only for movies... so in other words, will I get equal quality I would get from DVD-R? I really dont understand this concept...

You can only book type with +R media so i would not
worry too much about it. TDK should work just fine
I suggest that you buy 8X speed DVD's and burn them
at 4X. Always works for me
I have used TDK with good suggess.
Now i used pretty much Philips 8X DVD-R only as they work
every time for me.
And unlike what was said above it does matter if you
use -R or +R
Some PS2's will play one better thean the other but you
will have to use trail and error to figure that out as each
person will give you a different answer on what works best
For me, i have a V5/6, V7, and V12 and they all do better
with -R media, +R i seem to get more glitchy audio video
problems. But i am sure others will swear to just the opposite.

It's a money thing, DVD-R are 2x the price of a DVD+R, we have TDK and Maxell being the only quality media around here, will my V9-V10 PS2 wor kwith DVD+R *without flaws* if I booktype DVD+R?

If your Burner supports Booktyping yes...once booktyped to DVD-ROM the PS2 will treat the disc as if it was a DVD-ROM rather than a DVD+R
Check out the link I provided above for more info
