At what speed did you burn?

Anything above 4x speed and you risk stand alone (dvd) players not being able to read the burned discs.

What brand of media did you use?

Just because the burn was succesful and played on your PC, doesn't necessarily mean your stand alone will play the disc. Moreso, if your standalone is an older model. You can get a cheap cyberhome player and it'll play anything you throw at it because it has a more updated listing of media brands. If not, you might have to experiment as to which brands your stand alone likes. In the meantime, get yourself some DVDRW's to save some money.

Good Luck!

What's the brand name and model# of your dvd burner?

What is the firmware version on that DVD-RW drive?

Use this free handy program to get all that info for us and post back:

You may want to try the opposite format to whatever the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media.

Some of those stand alones do have trouble recognizing backup discs. When they give you a no disc error: There is something about it that they don't like. Usually format or a media change helps.
