OK, after a lot of searching & reading i am still in need of some answers which i hope someone can help with.

Heres my scenario; just got SW 3.6 and a fliptop. Installed the fliptop on my v13 (to my knowledge it was done properly), loaded up the swap magic DVD disk, gets to the "Load Program/Video Mode" screen. I swap in my DVD backup and I get the dreaded "not a valid ps2 disk". Said backup was made from a backup aswell, so I thought I would try to backup another game (from an original using DVD Decrypter). Tried that backup, same thing. If I just swap in an original game it loads up no problem(which is to be expected).

Now when I open the fliptop and swap out the disk, I get a "need bigger toc" screen flickering while open the flid and do the swap, and the laser moves back and then forward.

Is my fliptop installed properly, is this normal?

The only other thing I can come up with from reading posts would be a media problem, I am using Memerex DVD+R, DVD Decrypter burning @ 1x. I have made sucessful backups with the same media and played them in a friends ps2 with a mod-chip.

any help/suggestions would be appreciated

I'd say, dumb the memorex crap discs and get TDK *or tayo yuden, which is basically the same brand* or Verbatim.
Also, try using DVD-R, they're easier on the laser in general.

Bigger TOC means you need a game that has a bigger "Table Of Contents", or, in other words, a game that is bigger in size.

Actually if you see an error that says Need Bigger Toc the PS2 know that you opened the flip top . Therefore the flip top hasn't been installed properly... The sensors aren't blocked correctly so they know when the lid is open rather than thinking the lid is always closed..

If you're using a V13 ps2.. Doesn't it come with a fliptop anyways? so your PS2 would need to be moded with Switches that block the sensors...

here are some links that may help.. You can also make switches of your own..

After some troubleshooting, I did indeed figure out that the ps2 thinks the lid is open.
I have been able to fix that problom by holding my finger on the bottom right corner of the flip-top, for some reason the corner is not flush with the console.

The memorex backups work but as I'v come to gather they are no good for the laser. I also have used a maxell, but it for some reason has given me a "not valid ps2 disk", could have been the way I burned it tho.

thanks for the replys,
has anyone else had the problom with the fliptop?

Check this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/234908 This kid had the same problem. I dunno how you installed the flip top for your slimline, but here is the correct method: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag... It sounds to me like the flip top lids for the slims are goofy, to go along with the flimsy laser, avoid the slims lol. Later.

Or simply jam a small ball of tissue into the the bottom right sensor hole. Of course, if your replacement fliptop lid isn't working properly, it is kind of a waste of money =/ But I hate the replacement lids anyway =p

As for Memorex DVD+Rs, it kinda depends on your burner. I have tried a few myself on my v12 without any problems.

If your burner supports Booktyping AKA as Bitsetting then you could always set the booktype of the Memersux discs to DVD-ROM and see if they run any better for you..

http://wiki.cdfreaks.com/index.php/Book_Type

check and see if your Firmware is up to date for your burner
there may also be a firmware update available that will let you bit set yor Burner

OK,
I have re-secured the flip-top and have solved that problom.
As for my Maxell giving me errors, I originally tried to burn @ 2x and got the " not valid..." message, made another copy @ 1x and it worked fine.

Thanks for the help/links/suggestions!
