Question 1: I purchase HD loader and the network card and a hard drive and get these all setup and running. Now am i right in stating that backups will not load directly from the ps2 unit, but only rental or retail games?

Question 2: After the HD loader is running, and retail games are being moved to the hard drive, and everything is happy running smoothly is their a way to load iso images from my computer to the ps2 hard drive?

I have a modded xbox and the process is quite easy to create backups
1. rent the game
2. load it into the xbox, and backup to the hard drive
3. network from my computer to the xbox using quix and create the iso.
4. then burn with nero, and poof a game is born!

Is the PS2 just as easy? I have some games that i wish to play, and want to utilize the ps2 to the best of its ability.

thanks in advance

Yes you can only install original games on the hdd using the Ps2 unit, you will need a swapping method to install backups.

You can transfer ISO files from your PC to your Ps2 hdd using an application called WinHIP, all ya need to do is connect the Ps2 hdd to a PC open WinHIP and transfer them over to the Ps2 hdd.

It pretty much the same way as the XboX except the PC can read the Ps2 game, so it would be:

Modchip/Swap magic

1. Make ISO of the game in question
2. Burn the game to DVD
3. Play the game using a modchip or swap magic

Ps2 hdd,

1. create ISO on PC or install the original game to the hdd using the Ps2
2. Connect the Ps2 hdd to the PC and open WinHIP and transfer the game to the Ps2 hdd
3. Play

Good Stuff!

Does the HD loader disk need to be loaded every time the PS2 is powered up if you want to access the HD?

I have been looking at the exploits, ie Independance and such, trying to gather as much info as i can. It all looks fairly easy, but you know sometimes its easy to read to much into stuff, and the get all flustered!!!

A game in question is GOD of WAR; this is a DVD9 game (dual layer), but if i burn the image or rather iso to the computer and then use the WINIIP program to throw it over to the PS2 it should work in theory right?

Yeah you have to have the disk in each time you load the hdd up,

If your looking into the whole exploit side of it take a look at the link below it may help,

Unless your using a patched version of the hdloader then no DVD9 games will work including GoW, WinHIP is a tool you must have as you need to use it to install DVD9 games.

I wonder if you use dvd dycrypter with iso read, and save it to the computers hard drive, then load it onto the hard drive located in the PS2. That would get rid of the dual layer issue as well right?

I will also look at the thread you left for me. thanks for your intelligent responces to my questions.
