You can go either way depending on your money
and your needs
Flip Top and Swap magic will work best for most people
As far as cost and ease of use.

Chips are more suited for people who do not play games online
they are much better and have better features than Swap Magic

1.Swap magic can't play dual layer (DVD9) back ups
a chip can
2. Swap Magic has to have games rebuilt or patched (not often)
a chip doesn't
3. Swap magic is cheaper, but when they add new features you
have to buy a new set of discs to get them.
a good chip has free flash upgrades (DMS4,Matrix Infinity)
4. with a chip there is no swapping, and no extra programs
needed to load your games with cheats from AR Max or others
Swap magic is about a 3 swap process
5. a chip you can not play online games because sites will
detect them and not let you on. Which means that you would need
Swap Magic and a flip top to do this.

Swap Magic will never be able to match the chip
i think some chips are already working on a way to give
you online support, but for now that is the only drawback.

so which is REALLY better, i mean because i read that the mod chips are really hard to add to ur ps2, and that swap magic and flip tops are less complicated. Also about the new feature thing, dont you have to play online to have to worry about that? and wat do u mean by having games patched and stuff

If you look at the official god of war thread, then you'll see what goes into patching some games.

which is better? you will get 10000 different
answers depending on the person's opinion
if you play online the Swap Magic and a flip top
will be better for you.

And no you can not put in a chip yourself without REALLY
knowing what your doing, and having VERY GOOD soldering skills.

New features can mean anything they add to make it better
not just online stuff. The last few things they added to chips
are HDD (hard drive) support and ability to play DVD9 (dual layer)
back up games. Next is going to be cheats on the chip so you
don't need a cheat disc.

All around the chip is better by far. But if you play online
then it just will no be your best choice.

Yes a flip top would be pretty easy to install yourself.

when using swap magic some games will need to be rebuilt or
patched, not that many but some. A patch you apply to the
ISO (image file) of the game after you copy it to your
hard drive. Rebuilding it is the same thing except that you
are doing it all manually rather than letting the patch
do it for you. It is easier just to rebuild it yourself
sometimes because finding the patch and applying it
correctly stumps a lot of people. And rebuilding with
Nero Burning Rom is a snap.
