I have been using Shrink & nero to burn for quite a while now, I don't really have many problems with this. I have been down the CCe rebuilder road but this always took too long to rip. What do you reccomend for a quick burn that give good quailty and can handle new protection, or should I stick to shrink?

RB/CCE doesn't rip they are encoding software and for video quality can't be beat. You want speed or quality?

I have found that comparing a dvd copied with shrink, and one copied using CCe/RB, that the quality difference is not that noticeable on the size TV I use (28") Therefore the speed makes all the difference, as an example if I were to copy a dvd it usually takes about an hour using shrink whereas it could take anything from 8 to 12 hours using CCE/RB. Which is a long time to tie up the pc, so I was just looking for something that was better than or as good as shrink, that could handle new protection and doesn't take too long.

On folders not requiring too much compression the quality difference will not be as noticable especially on a smaller tv but on folders requiring a lot of compression and on larger hdtv's the quality difference is dramatic.

The speed of RB/CCE will vary according to cpu speed and ram. 8 to 12 hours is a long time and I wouldn't go that route either. RB/CCE on average takes about 2 hours on my pc for a 6.5 gb folder. I have a P4 2.8 ghz oc'ed to 3.2 ghz and 1 gb 2.5 cl ram.

I agree with the others that a good choice for you would probably be clonedvd2 and AnyDVD.

It sounds as though you just need to us AnyDVD along with Shrink to help get past the latest encryption. Maybe also look at upgrading the PC 8-12 hours is painfully slow. If I use Shrink to backup a film it never takes more than 30mins even with all extras included on backup.

I think I will try clone dvd2 & AnyDVD, sounds the best way to go. My pc is a bit underpowered, it is a P4 1.7 with 768mb ram 160gb hard drive & nec 2500a burner. Bit slow but runs ok. I will do some downloading tonight and try it all out. Thanks

aabbccdd regardless of your period statement.

I can't say that I've ever had a problem with Shrink and AnyDVD working together and the results are always quick and good quality.

However I now use Recode or Rebuilder.

As it appears that most people using this forum are adverse to spending any more money than they need to, the difference with my suggestion is that he already has Shrink he does not have Clone DVD.

He quoted that he needs to handle the newer protection Shrink can't handle.

As for the speed, if it's taking 8-12 hours for the PC to copy a film I think any software change is going to make much difference, hence the suggestion on the hardware!

I still use DVD Shrink once in a while, but I prefer Nero Recode 2 better. Below is the method I primariry use and loving it.

DVD Decrypter - to decrypt and rip into hard drive (yes... the King is still flawless).
Nero Recode 2 - to encode and or compress (it's much faster than DVD Shrink, however, both are from the same creator).
Nero Burning Rom - to backup all of my DVD movies (not only that, but I book typed all of them as well).

And......recode 2 is available for about $8.00 with Nero 6 oem suite 3 (suite 1 & 2 don't include it) or Nero 6 ultra download or retail for a lot more money. Well worth $8.00 just to have. Here's an example http://www.softwareandstuff.com/SWW12252.html

Anydvd is good to have too.

I had a look when I went home last night and found that my version of Nero had recode 2 on, so I tried it out. I haven't had a look at the results yet but it took about 1.5 hours to copy a film. I use dvd dycrypter to rip to my hard drive, but I will try AnyDVD next time. Have to wait and see what the results are.

I don't know how fast is your computer (including processor and ram), but my system is pretty low [2.67GHz only) comparing to today's (computer) technology, and I can ripped/decrypted a movie using DVD Decrypter at around 15 - 20 mins depending on how big is the movie, 13 - 20 mins for Nero Recode 2 to encode, and 7 - 8 mins for Nero Burning Rom to successfully backed up using genuine Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R media. So, an estimate would be:

20 mins for ripping/decrypting using DVD Decrypter
15 mins for encoding using Nero Recode 2
08 mins for Nero Burning Rom to backup
43 mins - 45 mins overall

Glad you are happy.

Going back to what aabbccdd said earlier.

Clone DVD 2 is extremely good, have started using that, and more than happy with ease of use, speed and quality of copies. TOP PRODUCT!!!

ALKOHOL----you say that u use DVD Decrypter + Nero Recode2 and Nero Burning Rom to do the work?, why you use all does programs, with DVD Shrink you can do the same or better work. You can ripp the movie + you can encode the movie the way you want and the same program if you activate the region free, the burning compilation mode and for people who like better quality activate the Deep Analisys and just take you 41 minutes so REPLY. If your not concern, I have a AMD Athlon 2.2+runing at 1.4GH, 1GB of Ram, 200GB Hard Disc, Radeon9000 AGP 128MB with dual display.

Everybody has their own personal favorite way of backing up and software used. Since I want the best video quality possible and am not concerned with time required, I use DVD Decrypter w/ AnyDVD running in the background to rip, dvd remake pro to edit, dvd-rb pro/cce to encode and Nero to burn. I've used the other proggys mentioned above and the method I described produces the best quality without any doubt. They cost a little more money ( AnyDVD $39 dvd-rb pro $10, CCE $58, dvd remake pro $50 Nero 6 oem suite 3 $8) but well worth it IMO.

Why I use DVD Decrypter + Nero Recode 2 and Nero Burning Rom? Because DVD Decrypter is still the King of Ripper - it still decrypts all encrypted protection codes flawlessly. Nero Recode 2 produced better quality and it's much faster than DVD Shrink. Here's why I prefer Nero Recode 2 because it's from the same author/creator, not only that but Nero Recode 2 is more advanced. Why I use Nero Burning Rom? As far as I know, Nero Burning Rom is one of the best burning engine. You can control the burning speeds to your desire. In addition, it will "automatically" change the "book type" from a DVD+R disc into a DVD-ROM format flawlessly. Thus, my backup is guarantee to play smoothly in all functional stand alone dvd players regardless.

Why don't I use DVD Shrink? It's simple, DVD Shrink is out dated, and it can't bypass/decrypt/cracked and or it can't handle any of the latest encrypted protection codes now-a-days.

However, the choice is yours.

Oh and I forgot to say this, no disrespect to DVD Shrink or anything, but I find DVD Shrink to be a little slower than Nero Recode 2 even if they're both from the same author. Plus Recode 2 is what I primarily use and prefer.

Nero is a fine burning engine indeed but there are two others that folks would do well to try. CopyToDVD is the leanest, meanest burning app I've ever used and Prassi ONES is an amazingly simple app that uses no drivers and employs 'fuzzy logic' to help you choose the best settings for your particular burning chore. Boths apps have yet to throw a bad disc and I've used them quite a bit :)
