They should be fine (if they're a proper brand), but DVD+R tend to be a slight bit harder on the laser when it comes to games.

I use Verbatim DVD+R in my v7 and v10 PS2's. I thought I read somewhere that in older ps2's you should run DVD-R's and in newer ones your should run DVD+R's?

I have a V7 and V12 and i like -R better
DVD-R 8X speed burned at 4X
I tried +R once and it had audio/video problems
It was even the same brand and speed as my -R i used
But i have heard that setting the book type to DVD-Rom
on DVD Decrypter (if your burner allows it) will fix that.

My booktype is set to DVD-Rom for DVD+R Media. I haven't had a problem yet, v7 & v10 with "Chipmod" modchips.

Some heavy TOC games burn better at higher speeds (8x or up). Some Examples would be GTA:San Andreas or Gods of War.

yes, some games where the DVD's have to spin quick
and keep up with the graphics of the game are better if
burned at a SLIGHTLY higher speed like 4X on an 8X DVD
Like San Andreas, or racing games like NFS Underground

hey i got a problem with my burning. i got DVD-R's and they are 4 Times speed only. I burnt a copy of fifa 06 OF another burnt copy but my copy didnt work. could it be because of the speed of the DVD-R or should i use DVD+R. the guy who let me borrow fifa 06 said use DVD+R's because they are better. Is this true? or is it because of the slow speed DVD-R's because older games seem to work fine on these DVD-R's.

If you have V7 or up, you should try DVD+R, DVD-R is more for the lower versions, just:

Mount the iso with Daemon Tools
Convert to ISO/MDS with DVD Decypter > Mode > ISO Read
Burn 2x or 4x with Nero 6

It should work... does for me... I use RitekG05... "Arita" with purple cover...

Console Specs:
- PlayStation2 V9~10
- Swap Magic v3.6
- Slidecard Tool
- PS2 Tray Slidemod

Back-up Items:
- TSScorp DVD+/-RW Burner
- Arita 4x DVD+R
- Traxdata 8x DVD+R

media to use is really a matter of opinion, rather than
facts. People can tell you about 5 brands that will work
best for 95% of the people out there. They can tell you the speed
to burn at that will work for 95% of the people out there.
But each situation is different.
Like i always use Philips 8X DVD-R burned at 4X
never have a problem and have done plenty of games.
Have also used TDK 4X DVD-R, set DVD Decrypter to 1X and
let it burn (usually goes to 2.4X), no problems
But tried Philips 8X DVD+R and burned a copy of a game that
was on Philips 8X DVD-R (that worked perfect) and the +R disc
had skips in the music and really slow load times.

So try a few DVD speeds and burning speeds. You will
eventually find what works best for you and your
burner and PS2. When you do just stick with that and you will have great success.

Isnt it also game and hardware dependant? I backed up Genji: Dawn of the Samurai twice now, once I burned it while excessively surfing and downloading etc. that burn had stuttering audio in the CG movies and the subs and mouth movement was slower than the ingame audio, second burn using no other pc resources burned fine :)

you should ALWAYS turn off anti-virus software and
any other program that could be running in the backround
or system tray of your PC when burning.
And not use the PC at all when your burning
It takes a good deal of working memory to do the
process so give it all you have.

Thanks for that but also another question. The copy of fifa 06 that I borrowed was on a TDK DVD+R and the CD that i used to burn it was some cheap unkown brand DVD-R that has 4 times write speed. Could this be the reason my copy didnt work. Also i burnt ricky ponting(brian lara overseas) cricket 2005 and I used these old unkown DVD-R's to burn it. I tried to burn this game 8 Times using all sorts of different speeds and techniques. Could it be the CD i was using that was the problem all along because i thought the game might have had a crack on it or somefin. Also i though fifa 06 had a crack on it but my friend seemed to burn that easily with his TDK's. also my ps2 is a older version iam pretty sure as i did buy it more than 2 years ago. Plz help me. thanks

Yes cheap DVD-R's are likely the problem. Use Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, TDK, Ritek, Sony, or Phillips. Burn at 1 or 2x using DVD Decrypter. Go to MODE-->ISO-->WRITE to create the image and MODE-->ISO-->WRITE to burn the image. Older PS2's don't work well with DVD+R's, use any of the brands of DVD-R's that I mentioned.
