I am having problems burning movie backups, (write errors). I am using TDK DVD -r's and my burner is an HP 640c. I'm almost sure its the burner 'cause I never used to have problems with coasters using DVD X Copy platinum on my old non dual layer burner. Now, after using DVD Shrink and DVDXPress (latest download), I get a coaster every 3rd backup or so. On my old dvd burner, I never had a problem. Anyone else have a problem with the HP (lite-on) 640c? Is TDK a good brand?

Check on a firmware update for your 640c here:

Try updating it to the latest firmware.

I also have 1 and had very similar issues just like you are having.It came with my present pc. The compatability of those hp backups on my stand alones and the fact my lite-on 167t couldn't rip through those copies left me at no choice but to replace that drive with my original benq 1620.Too many read errors on those backups using quality Yuden000-T02 media.

TDK dash format is not too bad. There are quite a few burners that don't like them. The TDK plus format has a higher rate of getting cmags,so be cautious on the plus tdk media.

You may have to find the right brand and format of media to best suit that burner.

I am not an HP DVD-RW fan.Seen too many posts here at AD about problems with their drives. The lightscribe feature is of no use to me,performance and compatability is! IMHO
