It might be beacuse your dvd player cannot read the dvd+ format.

Thanks for your quick reply gumpy1984. I've already copy dvds from bluckbuster with the same batch of media... and it worked fine on my dvd video player.

Maybe, but it stillplays good on computer... is it possible that it could not play on the stand alone player because of the quality of the iso but can play in the computer anyway?

a computer typically plays any mix of formats with the proper codecs, but a dvd player can only work with standards. if the iso you downloaded has either improperly encoded video or audio for the dvd format, that could explain your problem. i'm not sure where else to go yet.

so you put the dvd in your player, and what happens? you get an error message? freeze-ups? what?

Thank you Auslander. What happen is when i put the dvd in the stand alone player, it says error on the dvdplayer and incorrect disc on the screen. But as i said earlier, i have no problem reading this type of media when i directly copy a dvd movie i rent.

I've also got the ''Incorrect disc'' error in the past when i didn't burn a movie adequatly, for example not burning all the VOB in the video_ts folder, or any error when authoring. Maybe it's a authoring problem i have... what is the steps in order to burn an iso movie to be able to play it on the stand alone player?

Here's what i did in my firest try:
used deamon tools to emulate the iso
used dvdshrink to make a backup folder and then burn the movie

Should it work that way?

Try setting DVD Decrypter to mode->iso->write, choosing the downloaded file, and burning. that should work well enough. also, is your drive capable of booktyping? that might help, but i don't think it would do too much just yet.

*edit*
as long as this iso is under 4.3 MB and is an mpeg file (can't think of why it wouldn't be), then you shouldn't need to use DVD Shrink at all. always remember to follow KISS with everything technological (or really, everything to do with life) whenever you can, by using the least amount of steps to come to a correct solution.

On my second try, i did exactly what you said, i.e. burning with decrypter. Of course it didnt play on my standalone dvdplayer. What is booktyping?

you can search for booktyping, or go here to find out more about that: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm but don't worry too much about it; that's not the problem. *thinks* okay, take your latest burned disc and plop it in your computer. go in through My Computer, and you should get a Video TS folder and an Audio TS folder. open the video folder and make sure it's all encoded in the mpeg2 format.

i have a sneaking suspicion that his .iso is not what it seems.

I just did it, and well i'm not sure how to verify if they are in the mpeg2 format... the files in video_ts are .vob, thats what i see :o) and .bup and .ifo of course

arg, brainfarts...being sick messes with your thought processes. hmm...have you tested these burned dvds on any other players, by any chance? or in a ps2/dvd-playable game console?

if they play through a dvd player program on your computer, but not in a standalone, the problem is either probably with the media or the standalone. and your media seems fine. after going over everything, testing the discs with another system should be the next thing you do.

*edit*
so, yeah, i was probably wrong. if it works in another standalone, booktyping might be a saving grace for you. do you have any dvd-r's to try, just to continue the experiments?

I ain't got no DVD-R and other standalone player in the house... i don't think it would be easy to find another standalone, but maybe i could. I'll try to find one and buy some DVD-R to test if you think its the thing to do now.

if your drive is capable of booktyping, you'll find the option listed in DVD Decrypter. give it a shot, see if that solves the problem. you could try cleaning the laser of your dvd player, as well.

then it might be your laser dying...DVD-R are easier for older players to read than DVD+R, in my experience. if you can reach in far enough with a cotton swab that has been dipped in rubbing alcohol, try wiping the lense with that. or, either acquire one of the laser cleaning kits sold stores, or dismantle your player to clean more easily with that swab.

at least it's not your media or burner! lol, you've found your problem. it's funny, though: often times, the cheapie players will run everything under the sun, and the expensive machines are picky as hell. that's why i'd just use a computer to run my home theater (if i had one), lol. :)

and all these dvd+r's are from the exact same batch? there's some kind of incompatibility between your media and your player; that's all that's left. they play fine on the computer and in other players, and the files themselves are great dvd-compliant mpeg2's. it's gotta be something about your media that your player just doesn't like now. *shrugs* sell it on ebay, and use the money to buy a cheaper player. or better yet, get a ski mask and take your friend's player! XD j/k, but wow, i'm about out of ideas for what else it could be. something's up with that media. that's a pretty old media code; does ritek still make them?

It's fujifilm medias... i also flashed my pioneer vr-108 to PIODATA DVR-108DX in order to auto bitset the dvd+ to dvd-. It does change the booktype, but still not enaugh to make it play in my toshiba player. It sucks cauz i bought a 100 pack of that fujifilm dvd+ and it doesnt even seem to work on my stand alone!

There's the result of my test:

Holy ***** it worked. that is like good, and bad news. at least i know my media works fine! but its getting a nightmare now, why the **** the iso movie i burn with the same media wont work on my dvd video player, but plays on another one cheaper!!!

Iso movie downloaded -> burning on fujifilm dvd+ ritek r03 -> wont play on my dvd stand alone player, BUT works onanother(cheaper)standaloneplayer

Real dvd movie -> copy on fujifilm dvd+ ritek r03 -> works like a charm on everything

What the hell.

i thought we had ruled the file out by playing it on multiple machines, but apparently not. hmm..all i can suggest is downloading it again, maybe a different version from somewhere else. or just rip a copy from a friend/rental place. whenever you download movies, you risk virii, spyware, and bad downloads, among other things. i never download movies...(mainly cuz i'm on dialup in the boonies)...but ripping/burning myself never fails me! *knock on wood*

*EDIT*
it's just something about that damn file that your player doesn't like, i guess...

...and i didn't bother to scroll up; so, are you sure that the iso is region coded to you? is it PAL or NTSC?
