I am trying to burn from a copied movie. 8 out of 10 times I can use dvdshrink and it works fine. But I have half a dozen movies or so that always error when reading. I have tried using dvdshrink, dvdcloner 2, dvd decryptor (with the settings recommended in this forum from Scubapete), and Sonic Record Now (which usually works for burning from a copy becuase the copy of course doesn't have any copyrights). To top it off I have slysoft anydvd running, no matter what program is used each of the problem movies will only get to between 75 and 80% read. The disks themselves seem to be in good shape, even so I have cleaned them with eyeglass cleaner but the errors still show up between 75 and 80%. Does anyone know of either a different program I should try or how to get around the errors? Any help is greatly appreciated

may i ask, WHAT BRAND of media are those problematic backups currently on? THAT might be the reason your cannot make a copy of your backups, if the media in question is "crappy" meaning Memorex (CMC MAG media ID) or anything of that sorts, you might be OUT OF LUCK~

you stated you already tried dvd decryptor and have it set with Scubapete's settings in place, IF this does not accomplish/rip it, i really don't know what else will~ dvd decryptor is THE most powerful ripper that I PERSONALLY have in my arsenal of burning/ripping, for me at least, if dvd decryptor can't rip it, nothing i own can~ :)

but, i really think that this is a MEDIA issue here...if your original copies were made on cheap/crappy media, then you MIGHT be outta luck...these poorly manufactured media will always give users a headache, that's why i always preach to use the "good stuff" (see my sig. for recommendations)...i have some CRAP Memosux discs that i made in the past, FULL of CRC errors, couldn't be re-ripped or copied after only 3 months after i made it...

I am using Memorex 8x dvd-r's and I understand it might be the discs. But at this point they are all I have ever used and they allow me to burn from a copy the majority of the time. I figured I was probably out of luck on those that just wont read 100%, but I was just hoping for a miracle from someone :/

Where do you purchase your recommended media?

locally, whenever bestbuy, compusa, staples, office depot, etc have a sale...i purchase PRIMARILY DVD+R format, so, in terms of DVD-R, i purchase ONLINE~

for the Taiyo Yudens on the top line of my sig...the 4x DVD-R TYG01s are from www.supermediastore.com

same with the 8x DVD-R TYG02s, from www.supermediastore.com

with the 8x DVD+R these i obtain locally on sale under the FUJI/SONY label (must be MADE IN JAPAN) for this to hold true...you can find the country of origin on the wrapper...it will either say "made in japan" or "made in taiwan", you might have to sift through a few spindles to find the MADE IN JAPAN ones as THESE are Taiyo Yuden made, the made in taiwan ones ARE NOT~!

the Verbatims i get are ALL made in taiwan, there is NOTHING WRONG with their country of origin...once again, i only use the DVD+R format 8x= MCC003, 16x=MCC004~ Mitsubishi Chemical Corp media ID, excellent stuff.

the 8x DVD-R Ritek G05s i purchased a LONG time ago from supermediastore.com/meritline.com/rima.com (can't remember which right now), but all those online retailers are reputable. :) stay away from shop4tech.com though, i have been scammed with FAKE TAIYO YUDENS from them in the past...

so, there ya have it...i am guessing your backups are not re-copyable due to the CMC MAG discs under the Memorex label~ bad media my friend...i wouldn't take them if someone GAVE them to me for free~
