Hi all,
I have a softmodded Xbox and whenever I turn on my xbox I get error 07, which is the HDD Timeout. Now I have tried using another hard drive and still get a timout, and also no games will boot. Now correct me if I am wrong, but when you turn on the xbox shouldn't the hard drive automatically be given power, and the disk should start spinning? Well both hard drives don't even spin, so I suspect the harddrives aren't getting power. However I plugged a fan into the hd power cord and it is given power.

If anyone can give me an explanation to what is wrong I would really appreciate it.

Also I have checked the cables and they are firmly in, and the DVD drive is given power, because it will open and spin the disk just not boot it.

check the main molex power cables( all 4 of them) that go directly into the motherboard they are loose and need some soldering also make shure that the jumper in the hdd's is set to master.

Ok well, I have checked all of the cables and cannot find any loose ones, so don't know what I need to solder. However I was able to use a computer, and plug the HD into its power supply, then turn the xbox and computer on at the same time, and the dash comes up. So it is the xbox's powers supply, but it is able to send out power to everything else; DVD-Rom, Controller slot, etc. So do I need to buy a new power supply, or what can I do?

sounds like you have bad connector pins that plug in the back of your hd or dry solder joints on the pins as all the wires are connected to the same points on the psu board. best off desoldering the hd power wire off the psu board and replacing with the one out of your computer, give it a try...

Puppie dogs are the only ones who can have bad breath and still be gorgeous at the same time!!!

Ok, well I cut the connector off of the tip of the power cable, and cut a cable off of an old power supply that I have. Then I stripped the wires and soldered them together. One of the new connectors doesn't work for some reason, but the other is able to power the hdd. So that was the problem.

Thanks alot for the help, you just saved me $35 ;-)
