I just bought an epson R200 and some verbatim 16x white inkjet printable DVD-R's but after i print onto them and run my finger over them after waiting a few minutes some ink comes off. I was wondering if this is something that happens with all inkjet printable media like taiyo yudans or just a verbatim issue? Ive heard there is no drying time but epsons cd printing software says allow 24 or more hours to dry, This seems a bit unrealistic that you cant play the dvd in any dvd player untill after 24 hours. I have some taiyo yudans coming and the verbatims will be going back because of DVD rot so hopefully the taiyo yudans have fast drying times? Thanks

I used RITEK DVD-R GO5 hub printable from www.supermediastore.com for my EPSON R200 and my drying time is about 10-15 minutes.

Your are welcome my friend. Have a nice burning and forget about the EPSON 24 HRS drying time because that is not true :)

the 24 hours is a safe estimate for the innermost printable area (right around hub) because it doesn't absorb the ink as quickly. After about 15 mins, my TY's are fine. Never handled them much sooner than that, PLUS I always handle them with index finger in hole and thumb on outer edge.

Why did you rub your finger across it? Always handle your discs by the edges.

I don't know about the R200, but I have the R300 with printing on my Yuden 8X DVD+R Silver Inkjet printable, and the drying time is somewhere from 5 - 10 minutes.

i use the TY hub printables. i say 10 minutes is enough to let them dry. after that i spray them with krylon gloss clear coat. that gives them a nice look and they don't smudge, even if they get damp.

Im going to be doing this also as the verbatim disc i still have that has dried over 24 hours is smearing. Krylon is probably going to be the best as they have a very good reputation in spray paint. You should be able to buy it at a car store like autozone or a craft store like michaels but krylon has a faq that tells where to buy it here http://www.krylon.com/main/level_template.cfm?levelid=4&sub_level...

And i think this is going to be the best kind (please correct me if im wrong) http://www.createforless.com/products/productDetail.asp?ProductID...

As it says in the faq, Never buy any other kind other then the acrylic as the other kinds will yellow over time.

I was wondering though do you just put them on something flat or cover up the bottom of the disc when spraying?

I use Verbatim 8x discs inkjet printable DVDs on my R200 and the drying time is 10 minutes on average. When you print the DVD just leave it be for abit and you'll be ok. As tempting as it is to run your finger across its lovely matte surface... don't do it :)
