Will CMC always be junk? Do you ever think CMC will get a clue when the sales of thier Discs goes down? Just curious as to if CMC has ever been good media or has it always been junk?

I don't buy CMC either myself because of what I've read in the threads but is there a chance the CO could change things around?

How would we know?

That's a good questoin I'd like to know! Also, I was just wondering I have a few of these discs left over from a spindle of Memorex 4x....do these discs just have burning issues or do they fail over time or develop errors?

Hey come to think of it the CMCs i found in the old Vebatim Data Life Plus discs were -R also. Are CMCs only hiding in -R, and not +R? It couldn't be that easy to weed them out could it?

i would think if CMC MAG could be found on the DVD-R format, they could JUST as easily be in the DVD+R format, not necessarily for Maxell media, but, as a generalized statement~ :)

here some examples, in no particular order...

DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.F01 4x
DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.E01 8x
DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.M01 16x
DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.R01 2.4x
DVD+R 8.5GB CMC MAG.D01 2.4x

these DVD+R media ID coding can be found on VARIOUS brands of media, it's just you NEVER KNOW when a particular company will use them, companies change media manufacturers all the time, without prior notice, one day it could be Ritek, next day Taiyo Yuden, next day CMC MAG, etc..etc...you just NEVER know, unfortunate as that is..

Thanks Doc.
I didn't think it would be that easy for us to spot them, but i wasn't sure. Oh well, i try to avoid CMCs like the plague, no matter what format/brand they hide under. Funny thing is, they can PIF and CRC scan great, burn great too, and then later, they just fade/crap out. Ya gotta get to them suckers fast, and transfer movies to Tys. Right General TY?

I've probably burned about 500 maxells and never 1 batch coded as cmags. Not a whole lot of dash out of them, but I did use just about every different jewel case pack-3/5/10 and spindle sizes of 15/25/and 50 packs.Always coded as Ty-g01/mxl-rg02/mxl-rg03/ritek-g04/ritek/g05/ricohjpn-r01/Ritek-R03/and Maxell-002-00 and I'll take any of those MID codes anyday!

The maxell dash 4x and dash 8x is the only reports of cmags that I have read a few posts about. Thank goodness they are not on the plus format,YET!

I just got a 25pk of maxell DVD-R 8X gold tops (MIT) and I have three coasters so far and am working on the 4th. DVD Decrypter identifies them as RITEKG05 but says it only supports write speeds of 1x, 2x. When decrypter finishes burning, it usually closes the disk(not sure of the exact terminology decrypter uses). With these new disks, once decrypter is done copying, it says it finished successfully yet the DVD does not play. Also, on the right side of decrypter, it says status: incomplete. Any ideas of what the problem is? I thought RITEKG05's are good disks. I just finished up a 25 pack of the printable maxell (MIJ) disks which decryptor identifies as MXL-G03. They all worked fine.

It sounds like you are having firmware issues with your drive. Check to see if the manufacturer has a newer one available.

I just finished trying the 4th disk using sonic instead of decrypter and the disk burned ok and works in my stand alone player. Is there a setting that I need to change in decrypter to accept these DVD's? Also, I have tried in the past to find firmware for my computer but have been unsuccessful in having located any. I have a matsushita UJ-840D drive. Thanks for the help.
