None of the described ideas worked - I had already tried them. I think I will just have to re-format and re-install

Did you try a system restore to prior to installing the program? Or booting in Safe Mode and then uninstalling the program. At boot up hit the F8 key and when in Safe Mode uninstall the program and remove anything it has left behind in the registry. You could try a regcleaner program like CCleaner. I installed this program and it crashed my old computer and ended up finally having to do a reformat and reinstall.

Theres only one way to remove or reinstall a new version, that I have found to work.
Ist you need (PC Magazine's) Startup Cop.
This will disable DVD43 from installing at bootup.
2nd you will need a program from (Karens Power tools) called Registry
Ripper.
3rd, Ist you have to have used Startup cop. Then go to Add/Remove programs, and remove DVD43,reboot,open up Registry Ripper, Type in DVD43
execute program to find any signs of DVD43 in the registry.
Note if you did not backup your registry--Then save the files in a folder j u s t in case you screw up.

The to Programs I mention are freeware and u can find in a search.

I have an easier way.

Dvd43 gave me the same issues that most of us here are facing.

Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del. Go to processes, find dvd43 among the list of programs. End it. Then Uninstall it.

Sadly, when I tried to reinstall it (as has mysteriously happened to many others), dvd43 flat out refused to work. Others have reported errors prohibiting normal function.

This version is full of problems. If it doesn't work after reinstalling it, try dvdshrink, dvd fab, or Anydvd.
