I did download DVD fab decrypter and copied the movie with it but the playback was freezing up a lot. I didn't need to use DVD Shrink as the movie was short enough to fit on a 4.7GB disc. I'll check out your guides borhan9. Thanks.

What brand of blank discs are you using? Poor quality media can cause playback problems. Make sure you also not burning at max speed and that your drives firmware is up to date.

I never had a coppying or playback issue before until the movie "Method". The problem is not with my discs or my hardware or software. I do believe that that particular movie has some form of new copy protection. Everthing else burns and plays fine.

Playback issues are usually caused by the media used. The copy protection on the movie is there so that you can't copy it - once you've ripped it to your hard drive with those programs the protection is no longer there.
Here's a link to just one of the many threads on freezing during playback:

It took the entire night for DVD Fab Decrypter to rip the dvd. I had to leave it running and go to bed. So I am very convinced that it was more than just the media. I use the same media with all my burning and never had a problem with decryption, compression, copying nor playback until that particular DVD.

Rent Method and try burning it and let me know how she flies. It's a boring movie. You won't like it. It put me to sleep during the first ten minutes, but rent it, rip it with DVD Fab Decrypter and burn it just for experimental purpose. I burned it with nero6 as it was a DVD5 disc and didn't need compression.

I forgot to tell you that I burned it (Method) @ 2.4 X, so fast burning is out of the question.

Even though you suggest that it isn't your media, can you please let us know exactly what media you are using for this burn?
Thanks :)

I do use cheap media but never had a burning or playback issue with them. I am away from home right now with just a few blank discs in my DVD carrying case so I don't know what brand they are. I get the cheapest from supermediastore.com. I did also get some cheap ones from CompUSA one time. I have no idea which ones I have on me right now as they are all plain silver. I am quite sure, however, that the playback freeze up is not a media issue. I don't know how come it slipped my mind before but I totally forgot to mention that the freeze up occurred before I even burned the files to DVD. I noticed it coming from the ripped files straight from off the hard drive. I think I might have had a currupt DVD Fab Decrypter download. I am going to delete and redownload it again, because I used it to rip Cruel Intentions 3 and noticed the same freezing from the files. I deleted it and ripped it again with DVD Decrypter and had a picture perfect playback from the files, burned to my cheap disc and had a picture perfect playback. There is something going on with Method though, because DVD Decrypter can't rip it at all and DVD Fab Decrypter files freeze up. I don't know, maybe it's just a bad download of DVD Fab. Do your thing this weekend binkie7 and let's see what happens. I will redownload DVD Fab Decrypter sometime tomorrow. It's 3:38 AM now and am getting back to bed. Oh my! It's tomorrow already.

Okay my update on Method. Used Shrink only - burned with Nero. The whole thing took 14 mins - burned at 8x on Taiyo Yuden's. Since shrink hasn't been updated in over a year this disc doesn't have any of the new copy protection out there.
Playback was fine (boring).

I don't know man. Nothing worked for me, but I didn't miss anything. That movie was crap anyway. I have no problems with any other DVD's. Sory to have you waste your disc on that movie.

Not a prob! I'm always up for a challenge :) Heck I'll get a movie just because it has new protections on it.
You probably had a bad press - rippers are more sensitive to this than players.
I know you disagree but burning with quality media does make a difference. Try it you may like it :)

I don't disagree with the media issue. I just never had a problem with cheap media except for a few glitches and poor resolution in some areas of the movie, but no major freeze ups or anthing like that. I know for a fact that media did not play a part in this particular movie, because I was getting freeze ups straight from the decrypted files on the hard drive. When I use up all the cheap media that I have I will give the quality ones a go. Thanks again.

Question: is that movie from Sony?
If so you might have the same problem as I had with Layer Cake.
See my threath and solution here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/246265
It might be that damn ARCoss protection...
Only thing that will fix that is AnyDVD (after yet another update) or DVD Fab Decrypter cause the do update their program to get rid of that protection scheme...

Not a Sony movie from what I can tell and no ARccOS protection. As I stated in my post above - shrink alone was able to do this movie. Shrink hasn't been updated in over a year and can't handle ARccOS w/o something like AnyDVD.

Ok, let me get this straight. You just popped in the movie, did not copy it to harddisk by using *any* decrypter but just used DVD Shrink to process it right away?
So, then the movie must not have CSS then...

Shrink is a decrypter - it also compresses the movie. No I didn't need to copy to my hd 1st. While it does save the file to your hd - it's basically 1 click almost- pop it in, open dvd, click back up. It will handle most copy protections w/ the exception of ARccOS, Puppetlock and the jumping boy found on Columbia movie(thinks it's theirs).

DVD43 has some free versions that handle ARccOS. It runs in the background like AnyDVD. Unfortunately it only works with Win2K and WinXP. The best free versions are 1.4 and 3.6. The other versions don't work so well.
