I backed up Burnout Revenge using DVD Decrypter and selecting the MDS file (burning at 4x speed) . The gameplay is fine but the game stutters and freezes so many times when it plays videos and when it is in between menus.
I need help ASAP, do I use different programs or something?

You don't burn MDS files!! MDs are just proof that you decrypted it.

Are you sure? Should I try it again using the ISO with DVD Decrypter?

Wrong answer Pindeho :) Actually you should burn the mds, kind of works on an ISO like a CUE does to a BIN. Anyway this game should work fine with burning the MDS, thats what I did. Im sure your problem will be media, so what media are you using, and what burning speed?

Jin is correct, burning the mds is the correct thing to do, and it is most likely your media that is causing the skipping. Chances are if you burn it again at a slower speed or on better media, it'll get rid of the skipping.x

agree with Jin666 and appleb
you do burn the MDS file with DVD Decypter
Most other programs you would burn the ISO
It sounds more like a speed or media file
burning them at 4X is fine if you are using a good quality
8X DVD. If it is a 4X DVD then you should just set
DVD Decrypter to 1X and let it do it's thing.
Also what media are you using? (brand & speed & +R or -R)
I like Philips 8X DVD-R for all my games
other good brands are TDK, Verbatim, Ritek G04, Taiyo Yuden

I use TDK disks. But I'm not sure if there good quality. I got them for $35 Australian Dollars for a pack of 50 (about 27 American Dollars). And these disks are in the orange colour, not the modern blue that most TDK disks are on now. But the thing is I've backed up plenty of games using these disks and they work fine.

The gameplay works fine (except for a short skip when I crashed through gates in Sunshine Keys). Its only the menus and videos. So should I just buy better media and do the exact same thing I did with the MDS file?

yep. Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim work well. Avoid Memorex or Imitation.

I've seen TDK DVDs for $50 Australian (About 42 American). Would they work well? I've heard they do.

I've never heard of them being awful. Some DVD-R's are more compatible with certain burners. Just try some different brands and see what works best for you. You may wanna start with a smaller pack just to be sure they work with your burner. Don't wanna be stuck with 49 coasters lol.

@Ranma12,

What version is your PS2 console? What format (i.e. DVD-R or DVD+R) are your TDK? Actually the -Rs are better when it comes to TDK, but I prefer the Yuden and Maxell DVD+R better simply because I can easily "book type" them into DVD-ROM format, and thus they all play flawlessly.

However, the choice is yours to make -- not only that but you'll need to know your PS2 good enough to know what media and formats your PS2 likes better.

The TDK disks I currently ahve are:
TDK DVD+R47PW50-AU 8x
I always burn at 4x using DVD Decrypter. I want to burn at 1x speed but DVD Decrypter always burn at 4x speed.

Does your burner support 1x?

What version is your PS2 console? You didn't answered this. What kind of dvd burner do you have? It may or may not support "book typing", if it does, then you can change the book type from your TDK DVD+R into a DVD-ROM format using the settings inside DVD Decrypter. DVD-ROM format will be easier and your PS2 should handle it much better as well.

Why don't you try to burn it at 6X or try 8X speeds if your dvd burner is capable of doing so. I backed up all my PS2 games and DVD movies anywhere from 4X - 8X the max. Additionally, I've always book type all my backups to DVD-ROM using DVD+R disc, and YES.... to my knowledge, they all play flawlessly.

Here's how to book type using DVD Decrypter on DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL media. Below is only an example of mine, you'll need to know your dvd burner to proceed.

01) Open up DVD Decrypter
02) go to Tools, Drive, Change Book Type (now look for your Dvd Burner and click on it)
03) Change For: arrow down to "DVD+R/+R DL Media" and Highlight it
NOTE: For SONY DRU 710A try "DVD+R/+R DL Media - EEPROM!" if step #03 don't work. Either one should work.
04) New Setting: arrow down to "DVD-ROM" and click on "Change", click on OK (when Success), and OK. That's it... easy as smoking!!!

Book typing your DVD+R/DVD+R DL or DVD+RW into a DVD-ROM format is good if you have any stand alone dvd player that's over 1 1/2 or 2 years or older and older PS2 model. Not only that but DVD-ROM will be 100% compatible with all functional dvd players, this is good if you're backing up a dvd movie for a friend or family member of yours, especially you have no idea how old is their dvd player.

NOTE: make sure your dvd burner is capable of "book typing" or "bitsetting" in order to proceed. Most of Sony/Lite-On, LG, Pioneer, Nu Tech, Ben Q, Plextor, Ricoh and NEC are changeable.

((Here's how to book type using Nero Burning Rom))

01) open up Nero StartSmart, then click on Nero Burning Rom
02) EXIT out the "New Compilation" when it pops up
03) click on "Chooses A Recorder" (it's a small burner icon next to (I) and the arrow down)
04) click on "Options", then on "Book Type Settings", set to "Automatic" and click "OK" - that's it... easy as smoking. Now every burning using a DVD+R disc your Nero will automatically change the booktype into a DVD-ROM format.

((Here's how to book type using Nero Express))

01) open up Nero StartSmart, then Nero Express
02) now click on "Copy Entire Disc"
03) click on "Options", then onb "Book Type Settings", set to "Automatic" and click "OK", then "Exit" out. That's it... easy as sipping on some Corona. Again, now every time when you burn, Nero will automatically change your DVD+R into a DVD-ROM in prior to the actual burning process.

Basically, you only need to set the "book type setting" on Nero once. So, if you book type it with Nero Burning Rom already then you don't need to do it again on Nero Express or vice versa.
