That's arguable. I've never had a CD or a DVD get scratched to the point of non-playable. I mean - I'll get a skip on one of my oldest CD's (Nirvana - Nevermind) but it's far from "scratched to hell".
"Scratched to hell" is usually a sign of neglect or abuse. If the DVD was his child - Child Services would be at his house talking to him about the necessity to feed and bathe his child.

ok man jeez use your head. in the rules we're not supposed to talk directly about how to pirate, so MAYBE its possible that some people construct these situations where they can talk about something that would normally be illegal, but under some strange circumstance they can talk about it with other people in a legal fashion. This person is of course not me, i am a law abiding citizen.

I don't think anyone has talked about how to pirate in here. People have mentioned that they DO pirate, but no one has linked to places to pirate - nor explained how to pirate.

No one has explained how to pirate? Funny you say that, what about all of those posts about 'just rent from netflix, get a ton of movies a month burn em, return em no problem nobody cares'. How about all of the other threads dedicated to properly burning and playing burnt dvd's and ps2 games? Yeah those are all just posted for back-up purposes right? Dont be naive.

I think Afterdawn's forums need a new category...Piracy debate and legal consequences. Every one knows what this site is about and what can potentially happen with that knowledge, but lets not be stupid and rub anyones noses in it and dare them to do something about it.

well im not sure about this because ive never done it, but here it goes. rip with dvd fab decrypter, with anydvd 5.4.4.1 in back then use shrink. after that buy a dvd copier (600-800 dollars). they usually do atleast 10 at the time. go to supper media store and get the 100 pcks of ty yuden disc. then get u a booth at the local flea market. they usually go for 5 dollars a piece or 3 for $10. what really amazed me is the locals around here had lodt 2 weeks before anyone at ad started even talking about ripping it. and im not talking about a movie cam either. these were good quality flicks on ty media. this is the only part i havent figured out yet. i remember here at ad people were having a hard time with this one for awhile. but these guys not only copied it but they got it almost a month early. so apparently we dont talk about real piracy. at least not on that level anyway.

I was a manager for blockbuster. Was there for 3 years in more stores then I care to remember. I can tell you that that guy you're worried about. He is doing the exact same thing you are. The only difference is he gets to rent the movie for free in the first place.

Well whether people pirate or not I agree its only foolish to talk openly about it. But I just love how the major studios are making alot of noise about shrinking profits however THEY MAKE ALL THE BURNERS AND MEDIA. If they really cared why do they invent and sell copy media DVD+-r's etc and are working hard on new technology blu ray etc. Why not just keep it in the movie theaters? Why because they dont make any money in the theaters its all in the DVD media and take home DVD movies. I also have 0 sympathy for any hollywood star when they spend 1 million dollars on their childs birthday party and have to buy 10 bentleys because 9 just wouldnt do. I do agree that if media piracy becomes too much the norm then hollywood might stop making movies or at least stop making low budget risks. But I do have to point out that apples ipod is the future for music and now movies and TV shows and if hollywood doesnt get on board they will be left behind far far behind. I hope afterdawn can keep us up to date on the court battles with mp3 downloaders and the RIAA. I would love to read the arguements for both sides.

moderator called for, this is the kind of thing that destroys websites such as this. everyone knows that ppl out there do pirate stuff, but it's against forum rules, and this thread is a prime example why stuff like this shouldn't be talked about on a decent forum. If you lot wanna talk about this stuff, there are plenty sites who will tolerate it.
Don't forget that anyone/any kid/authorities can arrive at threads such as this from a simple google search

ok people here's the deal, no one really gives a crap what you do on your own time, or if you pirate movies or not. what we DO care about is the subject being talked about here. if you are having trouble copying a DVD then we're here to help. We do NOT need to know if you rented it or own ot or borrowed it from you neighbors cousins uncle bob's friend charlie. when you openly admit to going to blockbuster and renting then copying a movie or game, yes that is piracy and is not to be discussed here. and we do not need a legal discussion about it, the only law here is afterdawn's rules, thats it. alot of things are are totally illegal in some countries are perfectly legal in Finland where aD is based, so the laws in the USA for example, do not apply here. the only thing that does apply are the rules of this forum, and blatant discussion of piracy is NOT allowed. and thats OUR version of piracy, not anyone else's.
