Moving the server may not be the answer the company would still be based and incorporated or whatever in Finland, so would still be subject to Finnish law.
By moving the server I was figuratively speaking, meaning transferring the company as well, (aD is a website hosted by servers, controlled by servers and located in a building without a storefront.) My point was that everyone else didn't need to actually move there since it could be managed by remote to some degree, allowing others to handle the IT work over there or just placing some current Admin?s/IT?s on a mini-vacation part of the time to handle the server needs.

For example, if my websites are based on a Florida company yet my hosting is in New York, all changes are made here in Florida, even though the servers are in New York. aD?s servers are a different story I?m sure and would need to be a hand?s on type of situation most of the time, but it also could be done either by ?farming out to an IT company elsewhere, allowing another company such as SlySoft to handle it as well as their own in some sort of partnership, or sending some of the Admins on a rotating basis to handle it. This was my point.

Let?s face it, if the government of Finland wanted these changes, it sure wasn?t because of their Movie Making Industry. You could almost bet that most of their politicians now have many new ?Toy?s/$$$? in their attic courtesy of the US Movie industry. Money is what does make the World of Politics go round, especially for a smaller country. They must play ball or suffer the consequences of what big business can bestow upon them.

I hope this clears up what I was trying to say. :)

It clears it up, thanks Ted. I agree if this could be done it would be great. I do not want to see this site just sink because of bureaucratic garbage. When you completely ban a subject from being talked about then that is really frightening. When I buy a product and bring it in to my home, I have always believe it is now my private property and I can do with it what I want. If I want to back it up because I do not want to scratch up the original then that is my business. I have done this for LP's (remember them) Cassetes, VCR Tapes, CD's and DVD's. When you say it is illegal for me to do so you are saying then that it is never my property, so then why should I buy the product. It is the same way with TV and Radio why should I not be able to record what is on public airways, now the industry wants to make that illegal too, and put a lock on programs so it cannot be done.

How true!!! I feel that if we took a poll for example of everyone in the USA, the VAST majority would agree with your comments, I know I do. But then the sad truth is the laws were changed here in the US, not based on what we the people wanted, but for the Big Businesses that truly control our country. I joking say this many times when speaking of all the money kickbacks, payoffs or special favors & contracts here in the US on a government level to make things happen, it?s no longer the United States of America, it?s the United Corporations of America.

I truly hope that this is not the case in Finland, but I do have my suspicions since this new law just took place, people are people and greed is greed no matter where one lives. Only time will tell.

we're no better off here in the UK either..they've only just realised that homeowners should be allowed to defend their property (our home is our castle or whatever the phrase is) against burglars/intruders, we can now use reasonable force.

Anyway, i 'mod' over at Burning Bits, it is incredibly frustrating not being able to discuss dvd ripping etc, but i get the odd Nero log to compensate :)

@ScubaBud

You are so right, it is the United Corporations of America. We keep electing officials who are pro big business, so in the end it is the people who get screwed. Profits are the name of the game, how can you have record profits and still raise your price and govt does not question this. Apple just reported profits, but was downgraded by the Stock Exchange because the profits weren't high enough, what is not high enough, where does greed end. The companies want more profits, yet put out the same old product that is no longer quality because they make it cheaper and charge more. Nothing lasts anymore, and is not expected to no on big business wants to be know for quality just profits.

It would be a great loss as I like many others found this site after xcopy platinum went belly-up. Although Drd has stated they could not legally ask for donations I would contribute to the cause as I've learned so much here. A suggestion might be as opposed to posting about copyright circumventing tools is to simply allow the site to post links to reputable products. Another is to not allow discussions on specific movies but simply keep the how to backup a personal dvd you own. Not sure so I will sit back and hope for the best.

to burn or not to burn that is the question
