Gotta start off by saying, what a great place, large amounts of information here and my hats off to all that contribute.

I have been reading all I can here over the last couple of days, so I may have my own answer, but I will ask just incase I missed something.

I have tried to back up to movies, but I have coasters instead, btw was my first attempt to do this.

I am using dvd srink and dvd decrypter, the process seems to go fine until I try to play them back in my stand alone, the first burn played fine until about halfway through and them started to skip,
with the next attempt I did the reauthor and pulled over only the movie, thinking that the compression was too much on the first attempt.

The second disc after using reauthor, stalls while it is loading, in other words the player will display "loading" until I press stop, if I can get it to start, it will skip from the get go...

Now I am using memorex, and after reading all the glowing reveues,I realize that my be my problem, and I will try a different media, but in the mean time can anyone see anything else I am doing wrong?

Thanks again.

Also in the second attempt is had the write speed at 2.4, hoping the slower speed would yeld a better disc, but it didnt seem to help.

Alright,

here's my experiance, I've never done a re-authored disc, always just a full backup (and for the record I can't tell a quaility difference between the original and the backup) normally around 60% compression.

Every movie i've done has worked in a standalone dvd player. I normally just use DVD Shrink, the odd movies (Grudge, Lords of Dogtown, etc.) need a little more work. I always burn on Sony DVD-R 8x media and have never had a problem.

As for the skipping the only time i've seen that is if the burn speed is too fast.

My suggestion do a full disc and burn at low speeds see if that works. Check out www.videohelp.com for information on DVD media, I.E what media will play in what standalone player.

Hope this helps,
It took me a few movies the first time to get process smooth!

I would bet your problem is due to the media you are useing, not uncommon with memorex crap. Try some verbatum, Taiyo Yuden, Sony mij, Fuji mij, (mij = made in japan) or maxell. Keep burn speed to 4x or slower.

Hi Medic4837,
I'm with Mort on this one! Time and time again peoples problems are solved when they purchase some quality media. No need at all to change anything right now until you get some better media. If you are still having problems after you have replaced your media then we may need to look somewhere else, but in my experiance simply getting rid of the Memosux ushually solves most issues 90% of the time.

Cheers

It will be a couple of days before I get a chance to try it again with some different media, but I will post again afterwards, I also looked up my stand alone cd player, and it looks like it doesnt like dvd -/+ at all, so I am going to try the disks at work and see what happens.

Thanks again for the replies.
Be carefull out there!

Well I took the movies to work and they played fine in the dvd there, so I think my old outdated dvd player has to go, now on the safe side I will not use any more memosux media from here on out.

@medic4837
I'd hold off on a new dvd player - well actually there pretty cheap now. Even crappy media will play in one dvd player and not another - newer models included. As the other memebers said burn speed and media will definitley make a difference. Also you might want to check the manufacturer id on those memorex - put a disc in decrypter and on the right the manufacturer info will be listed - if it's cmc toss em. They may play now but will degrade sooner or later.
