Huh???

I guess you are asking what a DVD-9 is and why you would use that setting in DVD Shrink. A DVD-9 is a DL disc and unless you are willing to spend alot of money stay away from them and buy some Verbatim's (DVD-5)which would be a SL disc.

also read the guides in my sig and check out the glossary.

Hope this helps.

bee2005, DL are Dual Layer disks. They require a DVD burner (e.g. Plextor 716A) capable of burning DL DVD's (not all are) but give you twice the capacity. As LOCOENG stated in the previous post, you will pay more for the greater capacity disks.

A few days ago I just used three DL disks for the first time to copy a Stones concert(three concert locations). Due to the LPCM audio files, they were a few hundred MB too big for normal single layer DVD's. I have not yet watched an entire copy but spot checking them in both a cheap portable DVD player and a Sony set top player did not reveal any problems.

I found the price varies considerably depending on where you buy the DL DVD's. Circuit City had them in three packs for almost $6.00 each. Newegg, has the same Memorex disks in a twenty five pack for just under $2.50 each including shipping. I do not think this is unreasonable to retain the quality inherent in an uncompressed 1:1 backup. I also expect this price to drop rapidly as not too long ago each DL DVD was over $10.00 each.

I've got my fingers crossed on the price drop. I'd love to stop compressing data.

Keep an eye on the Bestbuy website. Last week they had the 10pack of DL Verbs for $19.99. Right now they are $34.99.
