how old is it?
Have you tried cleaning the laser lens?
Your laser may just need cleaning or adjusting.

it very old the model is SCPH-30001 I got it when it first came out

go find a guide on cleaning and adjusting the PS2
laser and give that a try.

Definitely sounds like it needs adjusted, since one works but the other doesn't. Like steimy said, there are guides out there to tell you how to clean and adjust.

my brother made this "how to fix your ps2" it does work. i have a ps2 that is one of the first ps2's released and it still works to this day. try it out and let me know if it works :)
