It's the actual part that goes in your ear. One part is white and then there is the gray bit that comes into contact with your ear hole. Grip this gently with some pliers (the gray part) and twist the back part of the earphone with your other hand it will come away easily.
Getting them back on is a bit more difficult but nothing too taxing. you will need to twist a bit to get them back in the correct position.
You will need to open up both the left and right earphone.

If somebody can just give me a pic of the inside of the earphone I will add descriptions and labels to it.
I don't really want to mess about opening mine up again just to get a picture.
I drew the diagram from memory after I closed it up so it may not have everything in exactly the right place.
Also paul, try again I figured it out at first by connecting the wire to the other end without the solder and checked the volume had gone up then soldered it on.

Well you see where the wire connects to the silver blob of metal?
You need to get a soldering iron and place it on the part where the copper wire joins the earphone at the silver blob on point A which will melt the silver bit, which is the solder. The wire will then come away and you can then melt it back on to the point B in the same way.
Do a google search for soldering.
If you want any more help you got about 5 minutes before I go to bed :)

You don't even need any solder if you make use of what is already on the components. Just make sure you don't apply too much heat.
wut do u mean by that, cuz i really cant solder anything

right i have taken a pic 4 ya , look at pro`noobs diagram and look at this , what u do is you move the wire from point A to point B , the wire on this pic has already been moved , (remember u need 2 solder them) the wire u are moving is pinkish and the wire you leave alone is green , look at ya earphone once u have opened it up and look at mine and pro`noobs diagram and what people have done and it will totally make sense , my pic is a bit shabby but in my view is still gd http://img48.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture28dd5to.jpg thier ya go
