Hi. I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions as to why I am still getting pixelated scenes on my dvds? I have edited out everything that I don't want on my dvd and I'm still getting pixelated scenes. I'm using Nero Burning ROM, it came with my computer and I wonder if that's the reason? I haven't been using Nero and Shrink long, I've always used InstantCopy but since it's been freezing up on me I thought I would give Nero and Shrink another go. I know this isn't the Nero board but I didn't know which board to post this on. The pixelation isn't really all that bad but I'm sure it will get worse when I try to burn longer dvds. I have been using Deep Analysis and AEC but with no luck. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

actually matt75, i'm beginning to think it's the MEDIA causing this pixelation in your movies, if i may ask...what brand/kind/format/speed rate of media are you using? also at what speed are you burning onto said media? these are 2 very important factors when burning dvds~

this problem COULD be resolved by simply using a BETTER quality media prior to burning~ :)

let me know and i will further assist you from there~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Hi. The size of the main movie after I edit out everything I don't want is 66.3% I have been using Maxell DVD+RW media. I've been burning the discs at the maximum speed in Nero. I've had this problem the last few times I've used Nero to bur dvds with. Then I switched back to InstantCopy, but like I said, it started freezing up on me so I decided to try out Nero again. I think Nero is probably the best burning program to use, since it seems like so many people are using it, just my opinion. So I'm sure other people who use it don't get the pixelated segments like I am getting or they probably wouldn't be using it. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks

the most common reasons for this is too high a burn speed/crap media/too much compression/burning too close to outer edge of discs, or combinations of all those things. 4x is the max recommended burn speed for movies btw

Where does the pixellation show up: Stand alone player or PC?

View one of those backups that pixellate, using your pc.Use the same drive that burned it and look for that pixellation. That DVD-RW drive should play it perfect!

Try that backup on other stand alones, the more, the better.Look for the pixellation on those players.Verify how those stand alones play that backup.

RW discs are great to mess around with, but some stand alones do have harder times reading rws, compared to reading the +r and -r.

I've been burning the discs at the maximum speed in Nero.
Slow it down to 4x. I don't know what model of DVD-RW drive you have, but many of the newer 16x writers will over burn media.

These are normal playback issues. The standalone players suffer when it comes to reading DVD-R and DVD+R backups.Rw is even trickier for them. Media quality and burn speed is critical.

After eliminating the media quality and burn speed and issues are present, Verify on other drives. If they act up in same general area, then many other things can be the reason.

If that 1 stand alone player has the problems after other players viewed them ok,then likely laser lens cleaning or even a drive replacement as last resort!

I love Nero. Both my pcs have the oem version and it burns flawless.Sometimes it needs a complete un-install and re-download.I leave out the INCD packet! Don't need that packet.
I've encountered the pixellation 1 time and it was on my very reliable sony dvp ns-325. After verifying that my sony was the only player that had this issue,my benq played it perfect-I cleaned the laser lens.It helped quite a bit,but when I slapped in my first dl backup and issues really magnefied-that sony was replaced with a cheapie player and playback issues resolved.

50-60% compression is no problem for me. I use the Max smoothness setting in the Apaptive error compensation, along with backup in low priority mode/quality media/and a max burn of 4x!

Use Nero speed test to scan for errors on one of those backup discs that pixellates.

Also, make sure your burners firmware is up to date, this will help with new media recognition.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Here's what I've tried so far. I took the dvd to my parents house and checked it out on their player, the pixelation was still there. Then I brought it home and burned the video file again, this time using the "smooth" mode in shrink instead of the default. I think the burn speed was 2.3, if my memory servers me right. I know it was 2. something. The pixelation was still the same. Right now I am doing a speed test as recommended. My computer is close to being 2 years old. I noticed it was suggested to do a firmware update for my dvd drive, I must admit I would have no idea how to do that. I'm having my doubts that it's the media also because I realized earlier that I have used this media before with Nero and made close to perfect copies, by this I mean no pixelation. I notice though the pixelation doesn't show up until a dark segment comes up, that's when it rears it's ugly head. That's also how it was on the last video I burnt using Nero and Shrink. I also watched the part on my pc as recommended and I couldn't really see it then, but then again trying to watch for it on a monitor is pretty hard for me. I suppose the only way I could use less compression would be to cut out parts from the disc, like menus, etc? As you all can tell I'm not real good at figuring out much about my dvd burner, all I know is my cd and dvd burner are both in the same drive. I'm sort of kind a leaning towards maybe my drive needs to be updated but how to go about doing that is a mystery to me. Anyhow, I'll keep experimenting and if I find out what's wrong I'll let you all know. Thanks again everyone for the help and advice.

Go into the Nero Info Tool it will show your drive, its capabilities and the current fimware version. You can post back the info or check here for your make and current firmware

Thanks for your help. Here is what I found out. The firmware version is A106 and my read speed is 8.0 and 2.4. My write speed is 2.4. It supports all -R, +R, -RW and +RW media. Thanks again for your help, it is very much appreciated

Hi. I am using Maxell media. It's usually all I ever use. I've never had problems with it until recently.
