Sweet sony!

Memorex +DL: I wander if they are ritek or phillips? Great price if they are the riteks.

My favorite store: Staples:
Piss poor media sale this week: HP 50 pack spindles for $14.94
Most likely cmags! They also have the 25 pack spindles for $7.94?again,Likely cmags!

Looks like a great week for cmag lovers at staple's!

I find that very hard to believe that all your Sony +R discs code out as TY02 ... First of all TY02 is not a Taiyo Yuden code .. The proper code is TYG02 and it signifies an 8x -R disc ... The proper +R Taiyo Yuden code would be YUDEN000T02

You are 100% Correct catfreak! I've bought MANY of the Sony DVD+Rs and the MIJs ARE YUDENOOO T02 M.I.D. They Burn Superbly too! Love those Sony MIJs! catfreak, Aren't The Sony DVD-Rs MIJ coded as TYG02? Not the DVD+Rs, the DVD-Rs 8X MIJ. I am pretty sure that's right.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

My sonys code out YUDEN000T02 and i really like the clean white, easy to print on (i use a sharpie), label side. The MIJ ones are genuine Taiyo Yudens. Maybe Invasian was typing fast.
@catfreak do you know off hand what the other sonys (made in taiwan?)manufacture code out to be, and are they any good? I know the Verb DL MITs are good, but i always buy the MIJ Sonys DVD5. I just finished another spindle of 50 of these, and no coasters, all great.

I wonder if those Memosux Dual Layers are RITEK? I may buy 1 pack and see, My Local Best Buy WILL take them back if they aren't. They're Cool Like That. All I have to say is "They won't work in my Burner" as long as they are ALL there & I have the receipt, No Problem! If I do this, I'll post what they are. RITEK or Crap Media. By the way, ALL of the MANY Sony DVD+Rs I've bought at Best Buy in The 50 packs that are MIJ, code as YUDEN000T02. The 25 packs, all I've seen are made in Taiwan.Very Good! But Made in Taiwan. The editing was due to typos! :( Late and I am tired. Sorry. Good Night Everyone!

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

@ maxburn

give my discs i sent ya a run thru dvd identifyer~ :) if they come out as CMC MAG, i will laugh until the cows come home~ :P

@catfreak

ACTUALLY, i have NEVER seen a MIJ Sony 8x DVD-R code out as TYGO2~ :) i HAVE seen this to hold true on the FUJI 8x MIJ DVD-R discs, but, NOT on the Sony~

you are correct about the Sony08D1 coding, whether it be MIT or MIJ on the 8x DVD-R Sony, but, until i see it with my OWN eyes, i just wanted to clarify as others shopping for Sony 8x DVD-R MIJ will MOST LIKELY NOT EVER find the TYG02 coded ones :)

i believe the 4x Sony DVD-R MIJ were the TYG01s, but, i haven't seen Taiyo Yuden manufacture any of the RECENT 8x MIJ Sonys, hey, IF someone found a SONY 8x DVD-R MIJ that coded out as TYG02, then WOAH! talk about having lady luck on their side...but, to MY knowledge, this has NEVER been reported as such w/ EVIDENCE to support it~ :)

sorry if this seems like i'm "correcting" you, but, you know how newbies are sometimes, they read something and then start blabbing it ALL over the forums about Sony has TYs under the DVD-R format, blah blah blah...which is in fact, FALSE~

anyways, didn't mean to "kill the mood" on this thread, just wanted to add my 2 cents to it~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03

Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Sony08D1: These are also made in Japan. I ran into a couple spindles of them in the dash 8x.All 100 burned and played ok,but these were the last dash spindles that I used.

Sony08D1 is also on the taiwanese dash 1x-8x. Two different countries of origin using the exact same MID code!

That is one thing that bugs me with sony. They also used the same MID code on the dash 1x-4x being Sony04D1. I've encountered that code on the taiwanese and also the austrian discs!

.. Not all MIJ Sony discs are Taiyo Yuden. The Sony coded discs are 'origin unknown'. And the way that you tell that some of the MIJ Sony discs code out the same as the MIT Sony discs is to run them through a program such as DVD Identifier, DVDInfoPro or even DVD Decrypter

And on another note ... I have a friend who works at Best Buy (unfortunately not the closest one) and he got 3 different packages of the Memorex DL discs. He says that they are Ritek made ...

I just picked up 5, 10 packs of Verbatim DVD+R's 16X for $2.50 per 10 pack at Staples. I have not run them through DVDInfoPro yet, but these are made in Singapore. Can't beat .25 cents a disk for Verbs

Just got back from my local Best Buy and the Sony's were made in Japan and code out at YUDEN000 T02. The Memorex DL discs code out at RITEK D01. 7.96 GB available on the DL discs. Bought 100 of the Sony and 30 of the Memorex.

Should I stock up on the DL at that price? Haven't seen them down to $2 a disc ever.

I purchased a 25 disk spindle of Memorex DVD+R DL disks for $99 from Fry's Electronics. I burned DVD9 movies onto the Memorex DVDs using DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 in ISO read and write modes. My experience is as follows:
Successful Burns 30%
Burn failed at layer junction 50%
Burn failed at other than the layer junction 20%
I have used several other brands including Verbatim and Sony and I have yet to have a failed burn. I have learned my lesson and will never touch Memorex again.

the Memorex DL are just aweful, even the ritek ones. I have returned a 25pk I bought at CompUSA for $30, I'd rather spend that money on a 10 pk of Verbatim at Newegg.com or Buy.com. I know that all 10 of the Verbatims will burn correctly.

Yes Catfreak,
You are correct. I misspoke. The Dual Layer DVD that worked well for me was Verbatim. It was my burner that was a Sony Dual Layer DRU-810A.
