I am new here and just about to get into backing up my DVD collection.
I have read many posts on the different siftware avialable for DVD burning. My question is would having a DVD Rom for the originial and the blank in a DVD Burner speed the process up? I still am not fully spun up on the entire process yet but I am sure I will be soon with the wealth of knowledge on this site. Thanks for any info in advance.
Yes that would be faster then having to switch from original to blank halfway through. also depends on the media you use and the speed you are backing it up at.
I've got 2 pcs set up for dvd backup burning.My main pc,in my specs,has the dual drives and makes backing up dvds easier.No more sitting around waiting for the original to spit out and replace it with blank. Insert original in dvd-rom,select to rip,set DVD-RW drive as the backup target-auto burn with Nero and that's all she wrote.Set it and forget it.
Very nice when I go to bed,set targets and settings,tick shutoff after completion,and next day turn pc on to pull out discs.
My backup pc has limited specs: 598 mhz p3 celeron,30 gigs extra hd space,and a whopping 256 mbs of Rimm. It's slower when doing the normal DVD Shrink to rip/compress/and auto burn.I like using DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO read and Mode ISO write on those DVD-5 discand also dual layer when no compression is needed.
The extra dvd-rom drive may rip faster and it's less wear and tear on your DVD-RW drive.
It also can allow on the fly copy,a little risky,but something to pow around with once you get the process mastered.
Just a quick little tip: If you haven't gotten your hard ware/media/ and programs yet,stick with the quality stuff. Quality drives and media can save you a whole lot of headaches.Some of the free software you get here is also very good quality.No need to spend money on worthless programs and drives.
