So I've been hearing about this - I'm trying to get games to work on my xbox and I've had nothing but troubles.. I've burned 4 dvd's so far all with different settings and I still can't get any of them to work.

In dvd decrypter I set the booktype just like the many tutorials say - I get the "Success" notifcation and I think I'm good to go...

I burn - and it doesn't work still! - Also after I've changed it and its burned - DVD Decrypter says that the last burn cycle burned a dvd+r - unchanged.

I' have an NEC burner, and I'm using Imation dvd+r discs.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I think something is fishy with my dvd burner - I just tried Nero and to set the booktype as dvd-rom and it said it was done (under Nero speed settings) and sure enough even after the refresh - it still says dvd+r

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

- oh dear, which ones are those i wonder (Imation use different disc manufacturers and you can't tell what quality you get just from just picking up a pack. We used to use Imation at work and nearly all of them are atrocious -

Here's some examples of what you end up with when you buy Imation (the manufacturer media codes are in brackets) -

Imation DVD+R 2.4x (RICOHJPNR00)
Imation DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
Imation DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
Imation DVD+RW 2.4x (CMC MAG.W01)
Imation DVD+RW 2.4x (RICOHJPNW01)
Imation DVD+RW 4x (RICOHJPNW11)
Imation DVD-R 1x (RITEKG03....)
Imation DVD-RW 1x (OPTODISCK001)

for instance see these 2 out of that list -
Imation DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
Imation DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)

- you have a 50/50 chance there of getting decent discs (Ricoh JPN which i hear are Maxell made in Taiwan) or crap (CMC Magnetics discs). as i say you can't tell which exact ones you get just from just picking up a pack. That's why i won't go anywhere near Imation discs of any description.

The logfile will highlight exactly who made the discs you're using, but another way to tell is to download dvd identifier (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id... and use it to 'identify' discs

This sounds like a media issue to me. It would be nice to know what manufacture code you've got on the Imation. What speeds did you burned them on (i.e. 4X or 8X)? Do you have the latest from DVD Decrypter? Did you choose the "MDS" file instead of the ISO file? You should always pick the MDS to burn when using DVD Decrypter. Can you post up the successfully burned or the error log from DVD Decrypter?

According to my knowledge, any PS2 or XBOX games that's under 4.7GB can be easily ripped and burned via DVD Decrypter using the Mode, ISO, Read R, then once it's completed, go to Mode, ISO, Write W and pick the MDS file. That's it... it shouldn't be hard, unless the original disc is badly scratched or you either using some low quality blanks.

I could be wrong, but I think both DVD Decrypter and Nero should support your NEC dvd burner for changing the book type or bitsetting from a DVD+R to DVD-ROM.

It just had to simply be DVD-R disk and screw trying to change the booktype. What a waste of an entire saturday!!!!

I went and bought some philips DVD-R and worked flawlessly.

Thanks.
