I've authored a few DVDs using compilations of jpegs for slide-shows and captured DV from a handheld video camera.

I'm using Nero 6 to create the DVDs, and a Sony DVD burner.

Several of the people I've given the DVDs to have complained that they will eventually self-destruct. I had this happen to me when playing one DVD in an older DVD player. However, my newer Sony DVD player hasn't had a problem (so far). A friend of mine played one DVD in his computer a couple of times, then the third time it failed and locked up his laptop so bad he had to shut it down and remove the battery!

Usually the DVD will play fine once or twice, then start to stutter and the picture breaks up. This will happen at random places in the DVD and not always in the same place.

What is the problem? Bad software? Bad media (using TDK 4.7 GB 8x single-sided DVD-R)? Bad burner?

Hey.

What speed are you burning the movies at?

TDK are pretty good discs, so they shouldn't be your problem, but if you're burning too fast (i.e. over 4x) then it could cause the problems you are experiencing...

There is a selection in the burning software for Speed. The selections have options only for "Max" (which is where I leave it) and 1x and 2x (2770kb) and 2x (3324kb), so unless I'm missing something, I'm not burning at any more than 2x?

When it finishes burning, it should come up with a box that says 'Burn Complete At **x' what does it normally say there?

Alternatively, just try burning at 2x for a while, see if you have any more problems...
