hello - new here, i have burned around 70 dvds sith no real problems until now - dvd shrink will sometimes open the dvd, then during the deep analysis it will lock up after about 30%. once it locked up while opening the dvd. I tried just backing up without the analysis, it locked up during encoding & started making a noise like a cd skipping. the only way i can stop it is to hit the reset button.
i tried ripping with dvd decrypter & it went to the HD & then I opened with shrink fine. then still locked up during encoding. I think this rules out the dvd drive.
i also deleted & reinstalled dvd shrink & the same problem is happening.
it doesnt seem like its the burner or the media since it never gets past the deep analysis or the encoding process
gbrier,
Welcome to the forum. Can you take the side off of the computer and make sure all of the fans are on and operating properly. It really sounds like a heat issue as it does this when you are taxing the CPU. Try the next one w/ the side off. If it encodes then you need to add another fan.
thanks, i will give it a try - i doubt its a heat prob since its been fine all summer, but willing to try anything. my system is only about 6 months old & everything else functions very well, it is more than sufficient to handle the demands of dvd burning. If there were any questions about the system being old or inferior.
thanks for the reply car.mike
any other ideas? anyone?
gbrier - The suggestion that your computer is over heating is a very valid one, and is possibly your problem. (No matter how new your computer is, specially if you are using DVD Shrink. DVD Shrink is very CPU intensive!!)
I agree its valid - i just wanted you guys to understand that the quality of the system is not a concern. I also dont think an overheating problem would suddenly occur after 70 dvds burned with no problems. the fans are working properly.
I just took the side off & put a big fan next to it hoping that it was just an overheating prob. I tried to do the deep analysis 2 times, the first time it locked up after 5% the video preview was off.
Sometimes even with a new system there develops a problem. I bought my system (see sig line) two months ago, Aug 8th to be exact. Six weeks after purchase the MB burned out. Symptoms were locking up and rebooting on it's own. Suddenly, no workie. Not saying that it's gonna happen to you, but it happened to me. Just got it back last Friday.
