I was wondering if it was possibly to use avi2dvd to convert say a 4gb avi file to a dvd-r(4.7gb)? Is there an average avi file size that is say the break point for avi2dvd also?

well that still didn;t answer my question, but i will give it a try.
I am asking if when i convert it to dvd with an encoding program will the size of the AVI matter? If i try to convert a 4gb AVI file to dvd with a program will it wind up being bigger than the DVD-R i want to fit it on? If this is the problem can someone recomend the maximum file size to convert an AVI to dvd and fit on a dvd-r

change your disc size to that of a dual layer.You will then be able to fil 8.4 gig toi a single disc.

well definitely in this case but with compression software like shrink/clone there is no reason why you wont get it back to one disc.But the quality isnt going to be the best thats why i suggest you try a D/L disc.

The filesize of an avi is immaterial.
It's running time, and the encoded mpeg-2 bitrate, are the only things that determine the final file size.
An avi could be 700mb, but only 20 minutes long, or it could be 2 hours long.
20 minutes on a DVD is a waste. 2 hours is about right, so a 700 meg 2 hour avi, encoded to mpeg-2, at about 4000kbps average (8000max) will just fit nicely on a DVDR.

alright, that helps some more, i went and did it neways, 4gb 4 hr AVI file with avi2dvd, ended with a 4.03 gb iso, lost some quality tho, but neways i'll think i will stay to 2 hrs per disc
