i have a ps2 hard drive and of course hard drive advance and can somone please tell me if i have a coppy of a game on a dvd (not original this is a coppy of the game) can i steal be able to convert the game on the hard drive?

Yes you will need a way to swap it out without hitting the eject button something like fliptop or slide tool or you could just add the image to your pc hard drive and hook up your ps2 hard drive as a slave and use the program winhipp to add the image to your ps2 hdd

yeah he's right, the only other way I've ever ripped a backup to the HDD was

1. Run HD Loader/Advance push install. When it asks you to insert game push eject

2. insert a high TOC DVD or CD depending on with kind of disc your backup is. ( I use my old copy of GTA Vice City but I've used Swap Magic before too.) Push eject again to close the tray.

3. Let disc spin for at least 15 seconds to be reconised as valid.

4. Then I open the Flip-top lid and the GTA disc will still be spinning . Now I quickly ( but carefully) swap for my backup.

5. Then I push install and if you've done it right it will go to the screen where you type in the games name.

I've never tried this method with the slide card ( bucause I have the old flip-top.
this method WILL work , and I've been using it for almost a year now, but I doubt that it's really good for the PS2's drive motor.

I think what 2kwic said is the best way. Winhipp is a really good program I've heard, but my crappy computer has issues with it so I'm stuck using my method above

@luckgh0st If you have a fliptop with hdadvance why do you have to put in GTA?

all you have to do is put in hdadvance go to convert (hdadvance will stop spinning) and when it say insert game just open your filptop and put the game close the fliptop and hit X name the game and that's it.

That's a bad way your doing it man you could mess up your laser try to do it this way and im sure you will like it better

Yeah it IS a bad way and as a said above I don't recomend it. I have the HD Loader ( the fully patched one) and I'm running it from the memory card exploit and it always says "not a PS2 disc" when I try to install a DVD the way you said ,so I've used my way quite a bit. Also I have HD Advance but its an .elf file on a CD-R and I think I did put a PS2 CD on the HDD by doing what you said.It was when I first got the HD. So now I'm wondering if its possible to, refresh HD Advance like you do with the Cogswap loader?

Hey , the simpiler the better...

or if that dosen't work, can I pull the HD Advance image from the CD-R and burn it to DVDR?
