Hello everyone,
First I would like to say that you all have been extremely helpful during my short time here.
Well I have one question. Does DVD Decrypter secretly compress my files because the final ripped file is always smaller than what it states the size of the disc is? I also can notice slight pixelation in the movies. Ofourse the originals don't have any pixelation so it is certainly noticable.
Well if it is compressing my files on me how would I turn compression off? I don't want any compression at all.
I would have simply thought that the process of ripping the file would have possibly made it slightly pixelized but as I checked the sizes of the files they were anywhere from 200megs to a gig smaller than the actual size of the disc.
Please help. Thank you.

To my understanding, DVD Decrypter rips files, not compress them. (Although it is not out of the realm of possibility. Maybe compress some unwanted or insignificant files, but that's not really its purpose.)
Compressing would be something that DVD Shrink would do. Are you sure you're not talking about DVD Shrink?

I didn't download DVD Shrink for the exact reason of it compressing files. I'm using DVD Decrypter V3.5.4.0.
I rip it as an ISO could this possibly be the reason why the file is smaller or slightly pixelated while watching?

DVDDecrypter does not in any way compress.
If you are getting pixellating, and you are only using DVDDecrypter, then the pixellating is due to some other cause (i.e., poor media, burning to the very outer edges of junk media, poor burns due to burner problems, or need for a firmware update, or trying to multi-task during your burns, causing some "interruptions.")
You should not actually see a file size difference, either. If you rip in file mode, or if you rip in "ISO READ R" mode, either way. If you are seeing any differences, it may be because something is "rounding" the actual sizes of the files, which is common... or you may bve getting reports based on the old "1 meg is not really 1,000 kilobytes" confusion, and so on. This is also a common cause of misinformation. Make certain you doing a fair apples to apples comparison, and if you still see differences, post them here, and they can be explained.

My burner is brand new. Got it yesterday. It's a Memorex Dual Layer. I'm using Memorex Dual and Single layer DVDs with it.
Could burn speed cause the problem? I've been burning them at the maximum burn speed the burner and DVDs allow me to. I also shut down all running programs and disconnect the internet while ripping/burning.
Like I said the pixelation isn't bad at all in any sense. It's only really noticable on solid backgrounds especially black. Like the black screen in between menues you can really notice it. But if there is a lot of colors or movement you don't notice it at all.

That's the problem right there. First, the best DL media is Verbatim. Secondly, burn at lowest speed like 2.4X or 4X (at the max).

@Alcohol......you forgot to mention the Memorex media SUX!!!!! it's a NO NO brand that causes more coasters than any brand out there!
@Bruce..... you are right on the money about DVDDecrypter! that program is still the best.....it ripped BATMAN BEGINS without a hitch and then used DVDRebuilder for a perfect backup!!!!

I did Batman Begins with RB/CCE and it took 72 minutes start to finish, this does not include burn or rip time. Movie came out excellent but then RB always does a fantastic job.

BURN speed definitely affects the playback, the pixellation you are getting is MOST LIKELY due to burning @max speed...and ESPECIALLY since you are using Memorex media (which MOST LIKELY is manufactured by THE WORST company CMC MAG, your quality of media is more than likely VERY POOR) ~
if you insist on using the Memorex, both dual and single layer, slow your burn speed to 2.4x on the DLs and 4x on the single layer ones~ other than the proverbial saying of "use better media", IF you want to make the most of what you already have in terms of media...slow it down...DRASTICALLY~ :)
if you want better results, DO TAKE the suggestion of getting better quality media, check my sig. for suggestions~ :)

Wow, guess I better purchase CCE. I did it with RB Pro, and HC, and it took 6 hours. I'm guessing the difference is CCE is faster?

How come it took you 72mins & it took me 212mins witn DVD-RB Pro & CCE Basic(purchased) ?
I only Backed up the Main Movie.

I have Memorex but the ones I burnt I did on Verbatim. I did the DL's at 4x and the SL's at 7x.

The encoding times will vary according to the speed of your cpu and speed and amount of ram. It takes me on average 120 min for a 6.5 - 7 gb folder. I have a P4 2.8 ghz oc'ed to 3.2 ghz and 1 gb kingston 2.5 cl pc 3200 memory.
Arniebear has a P4 3.4 ghz machine with at least 1 gb memory.

We need to get you and kiv converted over to the good stuff (dvd-rb/cce or hc). You probably don't have a very big tv on that house boat but the doc probably has a big screen and the difference is well worth the wait. Besides you can batch process and encode while you work or snooze. There is a definite difference between backups made with shrink and dvd-rb/cce when viewed on my 52" big screen.

I agree with Mort on this! I have 2Gig of DDR2 RAM and it only took 89 mins or so for BATMAN BEGINS (also DVDDecrypter is still king....ripped that sucker right to the HD and read for DVD-RB). I burn with VSO CopyToDVD. Mort taught me to use the batch processing and I do up to 5 DVD while I sleep and wake up to my folders ready to burn!!! I love it! Thanks, Mort for teaching me the little trix with batch processing in DVD-RB! I love that feature! Well worth it!

Glad you made me a convert on RB, am enjoying this product and my finished DVD a lot. You are right the times vary depending on the CPU and whether you put it in the same folder and on a different hard drive. By doing this it really speeded up the process. CCE is much faster than HC, although I think they are pretty comparable viewing wise, and HC is free. It used to take me about 2 1/2 hours with HC on my other computer.

It just makes it easier for me to know where all the files are and to delete them later. Now that I got these SATA drives they seem much faster than the old ATA, but maybe it is just me.
