Hello,

I am trying to back up Batman Begins but keep getting CRC errors. The rip went fine (mode filer F) with DVD decrypter. I got a CRC error at 79% analysis on shrink. I burned the disk again. The analysis picked up at 79% no problem but I got another CRC error again. I burned the disk a third time (in ISO write W mode). The analysis picked up at 91% and finished no problem. During Encoding I got yet another CRC error at 54%. I have no idea what the problem is. The disk has no scratches on it and I cleaned it twice with lens kleener. Also, I rip at 4x or less and use a Matsushita UJ-840 drive. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I used SHRINK then Nero with DVD43 in the backround. I used SHRINK to compress and back the movie up to my hard drive. DVD43 handled the encryption as soon as the original was placed in my drive. Finally, I used Nero Recode2 at 4x (Burn At Once & HQ Slow Burning Mode) to make a flawless copy on SONY DVD-R media, movie title only which by the way includes previews and chapter options. These programs are the best and free.

Thanks for the help paradyme and Deline. A couple of questions paradyme. Do you rip the movie to your hard drive with Decrypter or are you able to rip it using shrink with DVD43 running in the background. I'm confused about this. Also, is Nero recode2 free? I downloaded it from the link you provided. After installation, I got a message saying my demo version has expired.

Thanks

swappo,

"Do you rip the movie to your hard drive with Decrypter or are you able to rip it using shrink with DVD43 running in the background."

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are no longer updated so for the more recent movies with new protection you need to use a program that's updated to handle the protection. You can either run DVD43 or AnyDVD in the background and rip with DVD Shrink or you can rip with DVDFab and then Shink using DVD Shrink.

Sorry this question was not directed to me.... =)

I just got my first DL blank discs and was gonna use Batman Begins to make my first DL copy.

Tried my usual AnyDVD and DVDDecrypter to bring the disc to the hard drive. Then used DVDShrink to burn my disk. coaster. Go to play the movie, and froze up. Chapter play froze the machine. No errors during reading or burning.

Burnt a second disc with CloneDVD2 and it worked like a charm. Guess CloneDVD2 is my new buddy for DL discs...

@swappo, What brand of media do you use? How fast do you burn. I made a dual layer backup using Decrypter...Iso Read, then Iso Write...I also made a copy using Dvd Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic... I cannot see the difference between the two. This could be related to Media.

There is no need to use DVD Shrink when burning to a DL disc. Simply do a ISO Read, then a ISO Write in DVD Decrypter.

@swappo Just download Nero 6 here at the site. Just visit the home page, You'll see Nero 6 in downloads which includes RECODE2. Mine came with my SONY-DRU 800A DVD drive. I use SHRINK to compress, encode analyze and back-up the original disk. DVD43 which is loaded on my PC begins to work soon as it detects a encrypted DVD in my drive. SHRINK also can remove encryption which is a plus. Lastly, I do not allow for the SHRINK to Nero synchronized burning to complete. Once I'm done backing up my movie to my hard drive. I close out SHRINK and then open Nero RECODE2 to complete my back-up to DVD media.

temj - I'll give that a try next time. I've never used Decrypter for writes. Will that also work for a straight DVD5 to DVD5 copy?

Yes it will also work for DVD-5's. It is the preferred method for most. Here is a guide I made on how to do that, it was written for making a copy of a copy but, can be used for straight copying a DVD-5 to a blank DVD+R or copying a DVD-9 to a DVD+R DL. - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48358

Thanks for all the help. I have successfully burned Batman Begins. I downloaded DVD43 and used Shrink to analyze and encode the file. I tried to burn with decrypter but got an error: CreateFile Failed! Reason: The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid. I then used Sonic, which came with my computer, to burn the DVD onto a sony disk. Everything went smoothly. I played through the intro on the copy in my stand alone player and it seems to be fine. Also, I had problems with Kingdom of Heaven until I used DVD43 and Shrink and that appears to have worked well. I'll have to watch KOH this weekend to see. Thanks again, this site is very helpful.

Hi guys, well I'm just having the same problems backing up the Batman Begins DVD.

I already tried some of the solutions explained in this post without success. What am I doing wrong??

The DVD43 is already installed on my PC. Then I run DVD Shrink to back the movie up to my hard drive.. The analysing process always stops at 37% :(

I also tried with AnyDVD in the background, geting the same result...

Thanks in advance

all i'll add is that i did Kingdom of Heaven and Batman Begins (both Region 2) with just DVD Shrink on it's lonesome, and watched both twice, from beginnning to end as they're both excellent films.

Do you think maybe they throw out the random DVD with some intentional errors on it, to throw off programs like shrink, just to discourage ripping ? That might explain the inconsistent failures we're talking about. Has anyone ever tried a different DVD of the movie that failed their transcoding process ? Now that would be interesting, wouldn't it.

I've had the same problem. I purchased The Mummy, Mummy Returns, and the Scorpion King. The Scorpion King has a couple of hang spots in it and it is the factory origonal. Now that being said, it is one of the lower costing remakes that I bought for $9.95 instead of $19.95. I am wondering if the QC on the cheaper remakes is less than perfect. I should have looked at the disc to identify the media. I may do that when I get home.

Has anyone else checked the media source on retail movie media?

Many problems with defective bad pressed dvd these days. I did Batman with CloneDVD and AnyDVD and no problems. Had a slight startup problem in my stand alone player that said disc was dirty. I thought I accidently fingerprinted the burned copy. It was like new. Inserted it again and it played fine. I have noticed some newer originals freezing up in the middle at the layer break area, which may give a CRC error around 50% while ripping.

Good point, I already did Kingdom of Heaven and Land of the Dead, which are causing the same problems with other users according to other posts I've readed.

I´ll try renting Batman Begins from my local video store and see what happens...
