Problems ripping Layer Cake region 2 HELP!!!

Ok, I have been ripping DVD's for ages, but now even I got stuck.
I'm trying to copy the contents (i.e. ripping) from Layer Cake to my harddisk but Sony has come up with I guess yet another ARccOS protection scheme for this DVD.
It makes me f*** mad.
I used:
- DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 result: can't decrypt: unreadable sectors
- AnyDVD 5.4.1.1 result: can't copy/decrypt: unredable sectors
- DVDFab Decrypter (says it can handle Sony ARccOS protection: result same as all above.
Then I tried combo's like AnyDVD with Vobblanker etc. etc.
Same result: no go
Has ANYONE out there been able to rip this f**** movie? Tips? Hint?
SONY needs to be f*** up the *ss for this sh***

I would try cleaning the disk, or getting another one. This sounds more like a bad disk. The problems ripping this disk were resolved sometime ago and all the programs you mentioned should have no problem doing the movie.

I agree with Arniebear - probably a bad disc. AnyDVD had an update back in March for Layer Cake (UK). The latest version of AnyDVD is now 5.4.4.1 - but I did this movie with an earlier version of AnyDVD with Nero Recode - no problems.

Guys, the disc is a brand new rental. Not a scratch or mark on it. I tell you: that is not the problem. I have ripped +>1500 DVD's (if not more) in my life and the only problems I ever encountered where with discs that were physically scratched/damaged etc...
Its the Dutch retail version and it does have the Sony ARccOS protection. I am very computer savvy and I am 100% sure it is not the disc it self.

I ripped this movie to my HD a few days ago using DVDshrink and AnyDVD v5.4.4.1 with no problems at all.

Yeah but you probably ripped the UK version. I'm talking about Dutch retail here.

Try using DVDFAB DECRYPTER as that wipes out all of Sony's protection.

Ok, here is how I fixed it. It was more luck than anything else: I just stumbled on some post of a guy who obviously had the same problem.
He disabled AnyDVD and installed DVD Region+CSS Free lite and used DVD Shrink 3.2 to directly get the movie only from the disc.
That worked for me too, except that I could not play the disc on my Pioneer stand-alone DVD. It would just say "seaching". However I discovered that if I went another chapter right away, I could play the movie.
So then I took the ripped movie, used DVD2One and removed layer 0. That layer had a size of zero anyway.
The result: it works..
Anything else I threw at it failed!

It's not that dificault. You must make a psl2 file for the latest version for decryptor. You can make a psl2 file woth pgcedit. After thta you can use vobblanker for erasing the crab. After that you can comprees with your favorite program and the dvd will be playable on every dvd player. I did it for the dutch version of layer Cake.

Been there, tried that, bought the T-shirt: the latest version of DVD Decrypter says it does not need the PLS files.
Besides: doesn't that imply that you know on a physcial level what parts of the DVD (sectors) to skip?
How the hell would you know that/find out?

Hey man thanks a lot! That is VERY usefull info!
I must say though: it sounds like a awfull lot of work!
It will only be usefull I guess when you run into one of those DVD's that AnyDVD won't decrypt: otherwise I would wait for some updates to AnyDVD or such programs...
I propose that they make a sticky or something out of that post here in this forum!

No thanks. yes its onely usefull for that crappy Sony protected DVD's
It's not that lot's of work. When you do one succesfull then the second is a piece of cake. Don't forget that Sony is always looking at the hackers so the will change the protection frequently. Updates of decrypt programs wil always run after. This programs are very usefull if no program can do the job.
Don't forget to run Vobblanker after the rip because you must delete the crap.

Here also problems with the Dutch version... I really don't understand what I do wrong but it doesn't work. Always get an error in the first second of the main movie file.
I've tryed to work with pcgedit but I just don't get it :(

You can try doing it following a guide I posted on DVDR for Advanced users. This will be for ripping with DVD Decrypter, but you will also need IFOEdit, VobBlanker & DVD Shrink.

If you try the guide, keep in mind that every movie is different so the corrupt and garbage cells will be different as well as the IFO Commands edited (assuming you will try to edit the IFOs to skip Warnings and stuff).
I am assuming if AnyDVD updated, DVDFab will soon update to be able to rip this movie.
You can also try out AnyDVD with a 21 day trial and probably also get CloneDVD2 as DVD Shrink does not always work well with AnyDVD.

I have never found a problem with AnyDVD and Shrink. Shrink does not work well with DVD43 but it has always worked with AnyDVD.

I also had same problem I tried many things finally I got it.
first download AnyDVD I used version 5.5.5.1 {I think that 5.5.1.1 also works}
when AnyDVD works browse dvd title select all files and copy to hard drive
anydvd should allow you copying and removing any protection
after that you can use any other compressing software you usually use
I used DVD2One version 2.0 I think other programs should work also.
"important" - when you compress the movie with dvd2one
you should uncheck layer 1 {select "cells" then select "layer" and uncheck layer 1 -size 0 MB} otherwise it wont play in standalone dvd player.
