I just replaced my Memorex F16 burner with a Plextor 740A. I only use Verbatim +R 8X media - MCC 003 and Maxell 8X +R media - Maxell002. I have noticed that all the disks so far I have burned with my Plextor drive have a blotch close to the center of the disk - no matter what media I am using. I checked disks from the same cake boxes burned using my Memorex drive and there were no blotches. Now, the disks with the blotches check out fine after being tested using scandisk and PI/P0 testing and play perfectly fine as well. I know blotches are usually because of uneven dye, but like I said I am getting them on both brands of disks from the same cake boxes used with my Memorex. It seems as if my burner is the cause of this. Anyone else have this problem? Since the burned disks check out fine, I guess this is nothing to worry about? Thanks ahead of time for any feedback.

do you have a pic of the disk?
i have seen another member in here have the same problem, i have searched the archives for this post, but i dont think it was on topic, so maybe thats why i can't find it. but ultimately it was the burner. i do however, remember so smart a55 saying it was the power supply causing the problem...

ok, a little more digging, i found this, on the ring on disk

and this is the power supply problem (its not real, guy was a doof)

Hey gear79, thanks for the response.

Unfortunately I dont have a pic of the disk. But it is a very light blotch, you have to be in the right light to see it. Unlike others who apparently have had this issue, my disks play fine, and the PI/P0 scans are fine as well. Maybe I should just return the burner and get a new one just to be sure.

if its only on just 1 disc, then i would try another just to make sure, and if it does it again, then trade out the burner. could have been just a bad disk, don't want to rule it out as a possibility. but if burns continue to look that way, then get you another burner. are your burn speeds high or low? golden rule, 4x or less (by i'd say 90% of memberes in here)

Well, thats just it, it has done it on every disk from each spindle so far. I always burn at 4X as well. I will probably swap out the burner and see if the same thing happens. Thanks for the help.
