Look for Made in Japan on the label and you should 95% of the time be ok

I asked a similar question and got replies like these...but made in japan, only buy certain brands, dont buy these brands etc...I was told not to buy any generic brands and not memorex. Well...went to best buy, found a Sony 50 DVD+Rmade in japan for $40, saw a $17.99 50 DVD+R Memorex made in taiwan, and went with the cheaper brand. Some of you are probably thinking "What an idiot..." but I've burned about 20 DVDs now and havent had one coaster. Every burn plays right in my DVD player and my xbox.

it's more about how long the disc will last in the long run.. Memorsux may burn ok but down the road the Dye may start to fade and the player or burner won't be able to read the discs at all.. That's why most say stay away from Memorsux... Sometimes you may get lucky and find some made in Japan.. on those the Dye is different and lasts longer...

So you dont like Memorex??? :) Well, I was just eager to buy some DVDs for my burner since I just got it. Now I will keep a look out for any good cheap media to buy, so I dont have to buy some crappy media right away when I run out :)

Office depot 8x are excellent ritek media like catfreak posted. Only 1 playback coaster out of 300! My benqs love those plus OD that code as Ritek-R03.

They should be going on sale very soon.

I'd avoid staples like the plague!!!!!!!! I had a salesman there a while back who told me one of their batches were a very good manufacturer,but he wasn't allowed to tell me! Sounds like a lot of bs and most of them I looked at were made in taiwan and india.I did have a buddy who had a hell of a time with some staples +8x,made by moser bauer of india. My benqs had no trouble with them,but the NEC 1100A definitely hates them. Those teons are probably just as good.

I'm waiting for staples teon +8x 20 pack spindle sale.The last batch of 20 pack spindles I bought were Ricohjpn! The 40 packs were all cmags for both plus and dash.I'm only 2 minutes away from my nearest staples so I spend a lot of time there!
