I have a friend in England who has sent me some dvdr's. When I put them in my standalone player they say "playback not available w/ this disc". But I can put them in my PC and they play fine. I have even tried backing them up w/ shrink and decrypter like every other movie I have (they work fine) but even the ones I make of the movies he had sent still won't work. Does anyone have any idea for this? Maybe I have to switch the format or something??? ---zen-->
If it was PAL and his dvd player was NTSC then you would see a rolling screen when the dvd plays.
what it sounds like to me is that the dvd is region coded for england and not for north america (I'm assuming you live in NA)
My suggestion is use something like DVD Decrypter to copy it over to another blank media and remove the region coding at the same time, that is to say that you yourself have a dvd burner.
By default RCE protection removal should be checked in Decrypter under File/Iso/Ifo. You can look in your Tools tab under Settings an make sure. If the RCE protection screen pops up then just do what the directions state.
OK it seems to be on to rip through the protection. Would their be another reason when I re copy the movie why it still won't play? The media I use plays fine on my player everything is the same but for some reason they just won't play? Thanks
zenarrrow,
Now that you ripped it did you convert it from PAL to NTSC? Before you pull you hair out as the conversion could cause pixels you might look for a cheap DVD Player that plays NTSC and PAL. There is one called Cyberhome and it plays NTSC and PAL. Google for it and you will find it
I thought the DVDS dedrypter would make it all region free, no? I am not frustrated enough to pull out my hair just yet. If I had to watch it on my pc I would be sad but not too I guess. Maybe I should try in my PS2 and maybe my inlaws house to see if it maybe is just my Stand alone.
Well after further inspection it will only play on my pc. No where else. Any ideas? I guess I will try to rip it with decrypter and see if it will work. Like I said I tried to do it before and they didn't work. I don't know why it shouldn't do you.
