My Memorex DVD+/-RW drive has never given me a problem burning DVD-R discs. But now I have a 100 spindle of DVD+R that the drive recognizes when they are blank. But once I write a movie on by DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter, the DVD is not recognized in my DVD player (which is a PS2 slim) and not even recognized in the same DVD drive I used to burn the disc.

Could anyone help me?? Do you need more info?? Thanks much!!!

From the log

"Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG, Media Type ID: M01, Product revision number: 0"

The CMC MAG bit is the nail on the head. It is INCREDIBLY bad media. What make is it, Memorex or ProDisc?

I cannot over emphasise how bad CMC MAG discs are. Try Verbatim plus life, Ritek, Taiyo Yuden & you should solve your problems.

You now are the proud owner of 100 dud discs!!!! I shouldn't laugh, but if you looked in our media section you would have seen very quickly what media to use & not to use!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but such is life.

Also, you need to turn on your DMA for your burner.

I can almost hear you saying "OH CRAP" as you read this!

LOL!!

You can also up date your firmware - the latest is 1.07 - here's a link:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1672
But as Pulsar put so well

Even updating your firmware to try & make it burn won't help the poor quality or from the discs degrading.

the media is the culprit here, but also, another suggestion would be to set the burn size SMALLER on your discs

you are burning far too close to the edge, and using crappy media, this is often times problematic~ :)

docTY~

but, yes, please use and considering getting BETTER quality discs~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

If Spike Lee was to make a CD/DVD media commercial, he would say something like this... "It's the media..."

thank God you lot got to the CMC Mags before me, it's been a long week for that atrocious, foul, horrid, substandard, appalling, and downright useless media - as most weeks i've lost count of how many times i've seen CMC Mag foul the pavements.

- get rid of Roxio, you may need to google search for 'Roxio Zapper' to fully remove Roxio...

follow all suggestions by the others and myself and you should be buring again in no time, just stay away from bad media or you'll be reading thru my signature :)

@ Creaky,

What is so bad about Roxio? Not that I use it since I have Nero 6. I haven't used Roxio since the days of trying to burn CDs was as interesting as trying to burn DVDs.

it's the fact that it can interfere with Nero, just as can Nero's InCD software.. not sure if it's still the case with newest versions but due to the sheeer amount if threads of burning woe, it's more sensible/practical to suggest people remove it.

after all the advice (lowered DVD Shrink to 4400mb, switched to DMA on Secondary IDE Channel, updated firmward, and ran roxio zapper) i got the memorex discs to work fine. what's better, I know not to buy them anymore. I've been told before by one of my friends who's a compsci major to stick to verbatim, so now I'll listen.

as for your help, it was expedient and through. I have read from several various forums and learned a great deal from this site in only 2 days. i feel mildly illuminated, i suppose this makes me a convert. Thanks. .. wew124
