First thing to do is turn off your caps lock. Not good to post in ALL CAPS.
Go into you device manager and check your IDE primary and secondary controllers. They need to be set to DMA. If they are set to PIO that is your problem with burning time. If you can't change them to DMA manually, delete both IDE channels from the list. It won't hurt to delete you burner drives from there also. Then reboot and let Windows reinstall them properly in DMA mode. Then check your rip and burn speeds. They should be much faster.
Also list some of your system specs like cpu speed, ram size.

....then after you've followed Jerry746's advice, let's have LAST section of your Nero log, which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar....

Creaky has already told you to get the very last log from Nero, so in order for us to help you, you need to help yourself and us as well.
Here is what Creaky said; "let's have LAST section of your Nero log, which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar....."
I don't know what's your computer specs, but I have the same burner as you. However, I can easily rip a movie from start to encode, and then successfully burned within 43 miutes. So, there is definitely something wrong in your case.
Just so you know, DRU710A latest firmware is BYX4. If you don't have it, then I highly recommend you to update it by going here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1917 or here http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru710adwn.htm#dwns
NOTE: keep in mind to always use high quality media such as genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell "Made In Japan" and Ritek.

i tried using dvd dhrink lastnight and got a movie to rip in 1 hour which is better then before maybe because the movie was short but Nero is still telling me 14hrs for a move.

- according to both those paragraphs, DMA is fine so it can't be that...
what CPU do you have, i suspect that's the cause of the slow encoding as there's virtually nothing wrong in the log.

A 644 cpu & 192RAM is barely enough to run XP. It will be struggling to encode & burn quickly.
I formatted a PC for a friend, it has a 1gig athlon with 320RAM. It encodes a lot slower than mine & takes an extra 5-10mins to burn.

A good portion of your problem with speed is that you system is a slower system. Quote: 644mhz and 192 of ram
I would consider an upgrade or at a minimum more RAM. That will help some.

Looks like Creaky has already summed up everything, but I just want to add one more thing about the burner that's all.
Quote: Recorder: < Image Recorder> Version: Not available
The above is from the log of yours -- this is only a virtual driver/image recorder only. I noticed that you've got the DRU710A, but you didn't select the SONY DRU 710A as your "destination drive" target. On Nero Express, just right before you're going to perform the actual burning process, at "Destination Drive," arrow it down and select your SONY burner, then click "ok" or "next" to continue. Your next burning should starts to burn with your Sony burner now.
Now remember, if you don't have the latest firmware for you burner, then scroll up and go the 2 sites that I've provided above to update your burner's firmware.

It looks like the cpu speed and ram are the biggest problem. I asked for those figures in my first post. It would have saved us some time on this problem at that point.

Its just telling you there is nothing there to assign DMA to. If you reinstall the HD then it will assign DMA or PIO to the device, usually DMA if everything is working OK.
